Narcian

Narcian (Japanese: ナーシェン Nacien) was one of the three Wyvern Generals of Bern at the onset of the Disturbance of Bern. Initially tasked with conquering the Lycian League, he worked behind the scenes to corrupt its marquesses and incite revolutions until his efforts were foiled by Roy. From there, his focus was shifted to Etruria itself, and he successfully incited a coup d'etat, shifting its control to Bern-allied revolutionaries. However, for his failings in the Western Isles and in search of Arcadia, he was stripped of his rank shortly before his demise.

The Binding Blade

Role

In the early days of the Bern campaign against Lycia, Narcian worked with Brunnya in an assault on Araphen, the present meeting place of the leaders of the Lycian League. The two swiftly overpowered and obliterated the League's army stationed there and mortally wounded Hector, bringing him before King Zephiel himself. After Zephiel and Brunnya departed, Narcien entrusted Slater with the guard of Araphen against Roy's band of Pheraean knights. From there, he worked to incite discord across Lycia, convincing Erik to turn on the League and ally with Bern and inspiring Legance to rebel and seize control of Ostia. When these efforts failed and Roy seized control of Ostia, he led a strike against Ostia to corner him but was stopped by the arrival Perceval, Cecilia and the Etrurian army, and was forced to flee.

His next target was Etruria itself. He convinced the corrupt noblemen Arcardo and Roartz to stage a coup d'etat against King Mordred, using him as a hostage to cow most of the Etrurian army – including the generals Perceval and Douglas – into their service as a "revolutionary" force loyal to Bern. He participated in a battle in Missur to apprehend Cecilia, the sole Etrurian general resisting the revolution, and witnessed Zephiel arrive and effortlessly defeat her. He was then tasked with finding and seizing Arcadia and its divine weapon, efforts which failed thanks to Roy.

As a result of the loss of the Western Isles and the failure to seize Arcadia, Narcian was stripped of his Wyvern General title and was succeeded by Galle; however, Murdock offered him one last chance to try to redeem himself by defending Aquileia from Roy's impending army seeking to free the Etrurian capital from the influence of the Revolutionaries. Narcian reluctantly accepted the terms, all the while conspiring to blame his failings on Zeiss under the pretense of him being a Lycian spy. Narcian failed to defend Aquileia and was killed in battle.

Role

There are two different variations of Narcian available to Heroes, both of which are tied to his storyline appearance in The Binding Blade. The normal variation of Narcian is one of the characters present in the game at its initial launch as an NPC, and was made available to players in the first Grand Hero Battle, which initially ran from February 10, 2017 through February 14, 2017. A spring variation of Narcian was made available between the period of March 18, 2020 through April 18, 2020 as part of the summoning event surrounding the Familial Festivities update.

Personality

Narcian was highly vain and arrogant, considering himself to be a pinnacle of intellectual and martial prowess and handsomeness, and reacting badly to anyone who dared to challenge his opinion of himself. Consequently, he obsessed over his perception among his peers and superiors, interpreting even the unsupervised disasters of his subordinates as having the potential to ruin his own career, and these concerns proved to be well-founded. He easily developed grudges on those who stood in his way: he loathed Galle, his rival for the role of Wyvern General, and also quickly came to develop a grudge against Cecilia after her obstruction against him in Ostia, which he freely admitted to Zephiel himself.

Narcian's official artwork from The Binding Blade can be viewed in Path of Radiance's extras menu if a copy of The Binding Blade is connected to a Japanese copy of Path of Radiance. Narcian: Wyvern General
The armies of Bern have a grand host of wyvern knights, and the greatest three among their number are known as the Wyvern Generals! Narcian is…one of them. All right, I guess that wraps up this installment! Snacks, anyone?	Er, ahem! Sorry. The thing is, Narcian doesn't have the greatest reputation among his subordinates. They don't think he deserves his rank—some would even go so far as to say that he stole it. That's all rumors, mind you!	As one of the Wyvern Generals, Narcian was among those ordered to attack the Lycian League. But even with Bern's military under his command, he struggled to keep up with Roy and friends.	Later, he was ordered to attack Etruria, and…he wasn't very successful there, either. Oh dear. I wonder if Narcian will ever achieve something that'll put the rumors to rest…

Yikes! Who is THAT!? Wait, I know who that is! It's Narcian, dressed up for the Spring Festival! I'm sorry… It's just that I never expected to see him quite like this.	You know, this outfit really suits Narcian's penchant for the finer things in life. The chiffon cape and puffy sleeves certainly are elegant, aren't they?	His weapon hints at another part of his personality: how he obsessively pursues his prey. There's no getting away from that giant fork, no matter where you run!	Narcian looks like he's here to outdo everyone else at the Spring Festival. I hope he doesn't get too carried away and wind up making things go horribly wrong… I'll cross my fingers.
