Henry (Japanese: ヘンリー Henri) is a playable character first appearing in Fire Emblem Awakening. He is a Dark Mage that defected from Plegia.[1]
Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
Henry is the second, and last, character of the Dark Mage class to be recruited, with the first being Tharja. He first appears and is recruited in Chapter 13 within a murder of crows.
In his appearance in Chapter 13 he states that he wishes to join Chrom's army to get more opportunities to kill people.[2]
While Henry makes his in-person appearance after the Plegia-Ylisse conflict is two years over he was present in the Plegian military;[1] though he never saw full deployment in battle against Ylisse.[3] According to a conversation between him and Panne he is responsible for informing her of the attempt on Emmeryn's life in Chapter 6.[4] Presumably due to being in the Plegian military for a time, Henry is familiar with several Plegian generals, such as Vasto and even Mustafa.[5]
Once Henry joins the Shepherds he accompanies the group until the defeat of Grima.

Personality and character
Henry is casually cruel and psychopathic, a stark contrast to his eternally smiling, cheerful exterior. He seems to think nothing of the casual references he constantly makes to torture and dismemberment, often in the same breath as more innocent subjects[6], and he also has absolutely no problem with putting curses on other people, even his allies, or with killing people in battle. According to his profile in the barracks he has the lowest blood pressure among his comrades; this may be related to the constant facade he puts up around other humans. He always wears a smile around others though some are able to see through this. His hollow attitude does not extend to animals, namely crows and ravens, which he can often make an almost instant emotional attachment to.[7] Henry tends to deny that his smile is fake when confronted about it by others.
Despite his lack of empathy towards humans, he shows kindness to those he does get attached to, he tries to comfort Kellam when he is told that he feels lonely and ignored, albeit in a very unusual way; he tries to cram himself into Kellam's armor while he is still wearing it.[8] He also shows caring and restraint towards his child, stating that he will stop at any time in training if things get "kind of scary".[9] He is suggested to be a very caring and loving father.[10] Henry also seems to be somewhat possessive, as he states that he would like to curse his lover to be unable to look at other men.[11]
Henry has an affinity for animals of all kinds. He is able to tell individual animals of the same species apart, to the respect of Cherche.[12] Henry states that this is due to him often being left alone by his parents; he would use the time he was abandoned as time to interact with animals.[13]
Awakening's localization plays up his affinity for crows and puns.[14]

Endings
Henry, Twisted Mind (single ending)
After Grima's demise, Henry made a cold, clean break from history, never to stain its pages again.
Henry, Twisted Mind & Robin, High Deliverer
Many wrote of Robin's legendary exploits, but accounts of her origins and character varied. Scholars, poets, and bards agreed on one thing alone—she loved her husband, Henry, above all else.
Henry, Twisted Mind & Lissa, Sprighty Cleric
Henry settled down with Lissa and turned out to be a surprisingly good father. Their newborn son, however, developed a notably bizarre personality, in no small part because of his colorful parents.
Henry, Twisted Mind & Sully, Crimson Knight
Henry settled down with Sully and turned out to be a surprisingly good father. Sully trained their newborn daughter hard in the art of war, and the girl rose to every expectation.
Henry, Twisted Mind & Miriel, Rapier Intellect
Henry settled down with Miriel and turned out to be a surprisingly good father. Their newborn son grew up surrounded by his parents' vast library, dooming him to a future as a bookworm.
Henry, Twisted Mind & Sumia, Maid of Flowers
Henry settled down with Sumia and turned out to be a surprisingly good father. Their newborn daughter was enthralled by her mother's pegasus and was soon begging for a place in the saddle.
Henry, Twisted Mind & Maribelle, Dire Damsel
Henry settled down with Maribelle and turned out to be a surprisingly good father. Their newborn son inherited his mother's noble blood—but also her sharp tongue, as time would reveal.
Henry, Twisted Mind & Panne, Proud Taguel
Henry settled down with Panne and turned out to be a surprisingly good father. Their newborn son was far more taguel than human and would come to be known as his dying race's last hope.
Henry, Twisted Mind & Cordelia, Knight Paragon
Henry settled down with Cordelia and turned out to be a surprisingly good father. Their newborn daughter grew up in a peaceful world with two loving parents and was said to be a likeable girl.
Henry, Twisted Mind & Nowi, Eternal Youth
Henry settled down with Nowi and turned out to be a surprisingly good father. However, their daughter had to grow up faster than most other girls since her parents showed no sign of doing it.
Henry, Twisted Mind & Tharja, Grim Stalker
Henry settled down with Tharja and turned out to be a surprisingly good father. Their newborn daughter's mood was said to shift violently, perhaps a side effect of having two dark mages for parents.
Henry, Twisted Mind & Olivia, Shrinking Violet
Henry settled down with Olivia and turned out to be a surprisingly good father. Their newborn son inherited both his father's grin and his mother's undying love for entertaining others.
Henry, Twisted Mind & Cherche, Wyvern Friend
Henry settled down with Cherche and turned out to be a surprisingly good father. Their newborn son was said to be quiet but also fond of wyverns, like his mother.

Trivia
- Henry's birthday happens on November 13th, and he is recruited in Chapter 13 of Awakening; in western culture, 13 is an unlucky number associated with witchcraft. Given Henry's characterisation, this was probably a very deliberate choice.
- Ironically, November 13th is World Kindness Day.
- When Henry steps on an event tile, sometimes he mentions that he once saw a man transform into a raven, probably referencing the Raven tribe from the Tellius games.
- Henry shares his Japanese voice actress, Akemi Okamura, with Emmeryn.
- Henry has a unique victory pose that depicts him laughing gleefully over his fallen opponent if he is in a class that lacks a mount.
- In a support conversation with Miriel, Henry references the "band camp" line from American Pie.

Henry |
From the Germanic name Heimirich which meant "home ruler", composed of the elements heim "home" and ric "power, ruler". It was later commonly spelled Heinrich, with the spelling altered due to the influence of other Germanic names like Haganrich, in which the first element is hagan "enclosure".[15] |
