“ | Yeah... Well, I'd be lyin' if I said I didn't feel nothin'. But I tell you, it serves him right. He killed a lot of innocent people. | ” | — Lex, on his father's death |
---|
Lex (Japanese: レックス Lex) was the son of Duke Lombard of Grannvale's House Dozel. He was persuaded by his friend, Azelle of Velthomer, to come to the assistance of Sigurd of Chalphy in opposing the Verdane invasion of Grannvale, and in spite of his father's intense hatred for House Chalphy, he served with Sigurd in Agustria, Silesse and beyond until his presumed death in the Battle of Belhalla.
Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
Role
Early in the Verdane raid on Grannvale, Lex and Azelle arrived from the north to assist Sigurd in fighting the invasion, though he teased Azelle over how the latter may have actually been motivated to help by his infatuation with Edain.[2]

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Lex is an Axe Knight that joins in the prologue of the first generation of Genealogy of the Holy War. Lex will start out a bit awkward as most early enemy units wield axes, and they will have a much greater chance of hitting Lex than most of the other units you start with. Luckily, Lex is durable enough to take several hits even from these hard hitting axe users, but he will likely need a healer keeping an eye on him early on. Because of the poor accuracy of axes, despite the low avoid of enemies, Lex will have trouble hitting some enemies, especially if they're in forests. Since he lacks Follow-Up and will have to wait until the end of Chapter 1 to obtain the Brave Axe from the secret event, he initially will not be very threatening at first. However, by Chapter 2 he will hit his stride as terrain that gives avoid will largely disappear and because of the high number of lance wielding enemies he will quickly start tearing through them with his Brave Axe. Lex comes with two skills: Vantage and Paragon. Vantage is quite situational and rarely ever useful, but Paragon on the other hand allows Lex to snowball very quickly and often give him the ability to promote as early as chapter 2. Players might consider giving Lex the Follow-Up Ring to boost his offensive potential, but many other characters also make great use of it and Lex can usually one round most enemies, besides bosses, with his Brave axe after promotion anyway. Furthermore, he uses axes (which are very heavy) and has low long-term speed, so having Follow-Up would not have been able help him naturally double enemies regardless.
Overall, Lex is a solid unit, he needs a bit of investment to get going and he's not going to be very impressive offensively until he gets his Brave Axe, but after that Lex will become one of the premiere frontline units with his access to Holy Blood, high movement, Canto and Paragon.
As a father
Since no children (sans a promoted Leif, who can only inherit swords) in the second generation of Geneaology use axes, Lex won't pass down any of his axe weaponry. Otherwise, Lex will pass down his holy blood, Vantage, and most importantly Paragon. Lex's holy blood will make every one of his children fairly tanky and Paragon will make them level up and snowball very quickly. Because of his excellent availability and the talk conversation in chapter 3 which gives them love points, many people pair Lex with Ayra. While Lex ultimately doesn't have any bad pairings, his only flaw is that he doesn't pass down Follow-Up, so it's best to pair him with a mother that either already has Follow-Up as a personal skill, or her children have said skill innately as part of their class; other than that minor flaw Lex is easily one of the best options for a father in the first gen.

Personality and character
Dismissed by his father as "worthless", Lex was uninterested in Lombard's ongoing feud with House Chalphy, though he still claimed to have only come to assist Sigurd as a result of Azelle convincing him to do so.[3] Hotheaded and something of a rebel to his father's ways, he was blunt and exceptionally honest, resulting in him receiving a Brave Axe from a mysterious woman in Verdane as a test of his honesty.[4] In spite of his rough exterior, Lex got along well with most people, exemplified by his close friendship with Azelle.
Love growths and events
|
- In the Prologue, Lex can talk to Sigurd after he appears, yielding no reward.
- In Chapter 1, if Lex waits on the end of the small peninsula south of Verdane Castle, he will receive a Brave Axe.
- In Chapter 3, Lex can talk to Ayra at any time, giving her a Brave Sword and 100 love points between the two. Both Lex and Chulainn may perform this conversation, and if Chulainn does it first Lex cannot.
- In Chapter 5, Lex can talk to Azelle after Lubeck Castle has been seized, yielding no reward.
- In Chapter 5, if they have been partnered, Tailtiu can talk to Lex, yielding no reward.

Fire Emblem Warriors
Although Lex does not directly appear in Fire Emblem Warriors, he is referenced in one of the game's History Mode maps; the "A Slippery Axe" Space-Time Distortion event in the Together to the End map reenacts the event where he obtains the Brave Axe in Chapter 1 of Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, with Lissa substituting for Lex.
