“ | The imperial troops are becoming crueler with each passing day. It's dangerous just to be a girl anymore! But I don't plan to go down without a fight. | ” | — Muirne |

Muirne (Japanese: マナ Mana) is an Isaachian cleric hailing from the capital at Isaach Castle, and the sister of Deimne. She was a member of Shannan's resistance against the Grannvale occupation based in Tirnanog, before she set out with Seliph to combat the Grannvale army at the dawn of his liberation army.
Muirne is Lana's substitute character, filling her role in the story and gameplay if Edain died or failed to be married in the course of the first generation.
Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
Role
Upon receiving the news of the impending Dozel assault on Tirnanog in light of their discovery of its status as the rebel hideout, Muirne volunteered to join Seliph in the ensuing battle; despite Seliph's insistence that "nuns and warfare do not mix", he relented when Muirne refused to budge on the matter.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Muirne joins at the start of Chapter 6 in Genealogy of the Holy War. She is Lana's substitute unit and has no significant advantages over Lana. Her base staff rank is B, so she can use most staves in the game, but she cannot inherit anything as a consequence of being a substitute. Additionally, it is difficult for her to obtain any gold without being given gold from a Thief or a lover, as she cannot fight in the arena until promotion, cannot inherit any gold and her movement is very low at 5, limiting the villages she can quickly access. Since she does not inherit anything and has limited access to gold, she has a lot difficulty in buying any staves which would make her useful. This results in a unit who can only heal allies at base level and little else, and who falls behind the rest of the army due to low movement, especially in comparison to mounted units.
Muirne's promotion does not give her any movement; while it gives her an A rank in staves and C ranks in fire, thunder, and wind magic, the statistical bonuses are inconsequential because of the lack of movement benefits. She also has no skills at base and does not gain any skills upon promotion; with her poor defense and lack of skills, she cannot perform well in the arena after promotion.
Personality and character
While somewhat quiet and shy, Muirne possesses an unbending will and a determination to help others, refusing to see herself as weak or unable to contribute to the war effort; at the same time, however, she is somewhat modest and downplays her achievements when complimented.[1] While scared of the challenges facing her and Seliph's army, she draws strength to carry on by thinking of the people for whom she is fighting.[2] She harbors an affection for Seliph, which she keeps quiet owing to the class difference between him (a royal) and her (a commoner).[3] In contrast to some of her fellows, she doesn't mind lacking the divine lineage held by the likes of Seliph and Ares, and believes that merely being allowed to fight in such an important conflict is honor enough.[4]
