...I cannot undo what is done. My father's blood will always be on my hands, just as Minerva's betrayal of her brother and country will be on hers. [...] Right now, my only goal is to gut that Altean prince who leads the League. My pride as Macedonian king rests upon it.
Prior to the events of the War of Shadows, Michalis assassinated his father, Osmond, and led Macedon into an alliance with the Dolhr Empire. Knowing that his sister Minerva would refuse to accept such an alliance, he had Dolhr take Maria as a hostage to ensure Minerva's subordination. Despite several warnings from Gotoh that he risked destroying both Macedon and his family, he refused to back down, and led his army of dracoknights into battle against the Archanean League, where he was defeated.

Maria rescued her elder brother following his defeat in the War of Shadows, and restored him to full health. Michalis first appears in-game in Chapter 3, where he rescues a gravely wounded Minerva from Macedon Castle, where Rucke has overthrown her in a coup d'état. He brings Minerva to Khadein to recover and join up with Marth's army, before leaving to search for his missing sister Maria. While searching for Maria, he discovered that Gharnef had taken possession of the Starlight tome, and managed to steal it from him, but was mortally injured in the process. He survived long enough to reach a village in the Wyvern's Dale, on the border of Macedon and Dolhr, and passed the tome on to Marth, before succumbing to his wounds.

However, if Minerva reaches the village quickly enough, she will be able to treat his wounds, and scolds her brother for giving up, convincing him to continue living.
