Nemesis (Japanese: ネメシス Nemesis) is a character who appears in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. He was a significant figure in the history of Fódlan; he fought in the War of Heroes that led to its formation, his actions ended up giving Crests to humanity, making him partially responsible for the creation of the Crest system that exists in modern Fódlan.
Biography
Nemesis was a leader of a group of bandits, but stole the remains of the goddess Sothis from the Holy Tomb. He later went to Zanado, the Red Canyon, and slaughtered several children of the goddess using the Sword of the Creator, which he obtained through unknown methods, and used their bodies to gain even more power, and brought war to the continent. He likely had help from those who slither in the dark.[1] This would later be known as the Red Canyon Tragedy.[2] In the Imperial Year 91 at the Tailtean Plains, Nemesis faced Seiros in battle, but was disarmed and brutally stabbed to death. Afterwards, in order to use him as an inspiration to the masses, Seiros spread the false narrative that Nemesis was the King of Liberation, granted the Sword of the Creator and the Crest of Flames by Sothis, and he slew several evil gods, only for his power to drive him mad.
If Byleth chooses to lead the Golden Deer, those who slither in the dark's millennium-long plan for revenge against Seiros culminates in his successful resurrection in Imperial Year 1186. Rhea herself speculates this happens as a consecuence of Shambhala's destruction breaking his seal, as the blood of Sothis contains an incredible power unmatched by the blood of other children of the goddess.[3] Nemesis promptly raises an army of undead soldiers and cuts a bloody swathe through eastern Fódlan in an attempt to reach Seiros at Garreg Mach Monastery, but he is slain for good by Leicester forces led by Byleth and Claude.

- ↑ "Seteth: Nemesis, the King of Liberation... The man who received the Sword of the Creator from the goddess and became a hero. However...
Rhea: Nemesis was originally the leader of a group of bandits. He plundered the Holy Tomb and stole the remains of the progenitor god. When Nemesis appeared in Zanado some time later, he already wielded the Sword of the Creator.
Byleth: How did he get the Sword of the Creator?
Rhea: The legend that the goddess gifted him the sword so that he could fight the wicked gods...is false. That story was created after the fact. I do not know how Nemesis obtained the sword, or why he appeared in Zanado. But he used that sword to massacre the people there. The children of the progenitor god. From their corpses he gained even more power, and brought war to Fódlan... A mere bandit like Nemesis would not have been capable of anything so monstrous on his own...
Seteth: It was surmised that someone was collaborating with Nemesis, and there was a massive investigation to uncover who it was. But the truth was never discovered. I am now certain that his accomplices were those who slither in the dark." — Rhea and Seteth in Silver Snow's Chapter 19, Fire Emblem: Three Houses - ↑ "You must not allow Fódlan's bloody history...the Red Canyon Tragedy...to repeat itself..." — Rhea in Silver Snow's Chapter 19, Fire Emblem: Three Houses
- ↑ "Claude: Nemesis? That Nemesis? Do you really think the ancient King of Liberation has been brought back to life?
Rhea: Perhaps the seal was broken when Shambhala fell... An incredible power that we children cannot hope to match dwells within the blood of the progenitor god. Nemesis obtained that blood, so it would not surprise me if that were the case." — Claude and Rhea in Verdant Wind's Chapter 19, Fire Emblem: Three Houses
