Appearance(s)

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones

Role

Rennac first appears in Chapter 4, in which he, along with L'Arachel and Dozla, appear on the northeast cliffs overlooking where Eirika's army is fighting monsters. L'Arachel declares that they must charge down the cliffs and help them, while Rennac snidely reminds her they will die if they choose to do so. After the battle, she energetically introduces herself to Eirika, as Rennac quietly accompanies her, quite annoyed by her energy. Still, he follows her as the group leaves.

Eirika's route

In Chapter 9 L'Arachel's group appears again. She excitedly announces that they are going on the overland route to Rausten. Rennac tries to stop her, but is ignored, sadly forced to continue. However, he can be seen in a house, asking the visitor not to tell L'Arachel that he is hiding there; he gives whoever visits a dragonshield. At the end of the chapter, if neither of the two houses were destroyed, he comes up and asks Eirika if L'Arachel and Dozla are still in the city. She tells him they have left; he happily rejoices and gives her an angelic robe.

Later, in Chapter 11, L'Arachel and Dozla appear again. She notices that Rennac is gone, but barely seems to miss him.

In Chapter 14, Rennac appears in Jehanna Hall, aiming to loot the castle's treasure and leave. He can either offer Eirika to hire him for 9,980 gold, or L'Arachel just manages to persuade him to come with her by her assertive force. Afterwards, he joins Eirika's army and helps her for the rest of the war.

Ephraim's route

L'Arachel and her group appear at the end of Chapter 10. She informs Ephraim that no ships are leaving port because of a ghost ship. However, she also declares that she herself is finding a ship to help purge the ship of evil. Rennac is unenthusiastic about this, pleading that this end.

Luckily for him, he escapes before they board the ship. In Chapter 11, L'Arachel mentions that he is gone, but does not really mind this.

He reappears in Chapter 14 in Grado Keep, hoping to steal the treasure of the castle. Either Ephraim or L'Arachel can recruit him. If Ephraim talks to him, he is frightened, having heard tales of Ephraim's supposed brutality. He asks for 9,980 gold to hire him and all his treasure; Ephraim can accept or decline. If L'Arachel talks to him, he joins for free out of her forceful assertiveness. He joins Ephraim's army and helps for the rest of the war.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Rennac is a late-joining Rogue. As a Rogue, he can open doors and chests and can steal items from enemies. His base speed is very high, allowing him to steal from most foes without issues. Additionally, he has a 100% chance to find hidden items, and joins just before Chapter 15, a chapter with hidden items.

Despite his utility, Rennac has many disadvantages. His availability is much lower than Colm's, and by the time he joins, there will be fewer items to steal and chests to open. Stealing is more valuable in the early game, as the player has access to fewer keys. The Sacred Stones offers many keys to the player for free, so thief utility is seldom significant. When Rennac joins, he often has nothing to do unless the player prefers to use lockpicks over keys.

Rennac's combat is decent, as his speed is high enough to double; however, he can only use swords, which have low might, no 2-range option until the Light Brand or Runesword in Chapter 19, and weapon triangle disadvantage against lances, which are common. Because of this, Rennac will often get attacked by enemies he cannot kill or even counter. His durability is decent, but not amazing.

Rennac also suffers from redundancy. Deploying two thieves is almost never necessary except for Chapter 15, where there are multiple hidden items. In other chapters, there is little Rennac can do that Colm cannot. Colm also has a significant availability advantage; in the average playthrough, Colm will help the player much more than Rennac. In skirmishes in foggy areas two thieves can be useful.

The player can replace Colm with Rennac once the latter joins. Rennac will have higher stats on average, and Rogues do not need lockpicks to open doors and chests. Even so, the high number of Door Keys and Chest Keys in The Sacred Stones calls Rennac's usefulness into question. Using mounted units with keys is often faster than having Rennac open everything.

Fire Emblem Heroes

Role

Rennac is one of the characters added to the game in the Calling of Blood update, and became available for summoning by players on January 7, 2022. Only one variation of Rennac is currently available in Heroes, based on his The Sacred Stones incarnation; he notably brings green daggers into the normal summoning pool, a weapon type not available in the game at its initial launch and previously exclusive to time-limited units and the Tempest Trials unit Jaffar: Angel of Night, and the last of the three types of colored daggers to become part of the normal summoning pool.

Personality

Rennac is a quite sarcastic and contemptuous man. As a rogue, he takes great pride in his abilities, charging 9,980 gold to Eirika or Ephraim for his services.[1][2] He is slightly greedy, and states that gold makes him happy when asked by L'Arachel.[3] Often, he bemoans his terrible misfortune, in his view, and he greatly resents his work for L'Arachel.[4] He is able to dance, shown in his conversations with L'Arachel, who at first doubts this. Rennac learned this from going to parties and dancing with his father's friends' daughters.[5] Regardless of his negative character traits, he still has a sweet side, shown when he tries to court Tethys in their series of support conversations or, according to his ending, doesn't try very hard to keep away from L'Arachel.

Rennac is a rogue hired by L'Arachel to guard her along with Dozla. He receives very little pay for this; however, she states that he has received "ample compensation" as the joy from doing good.[6] Still, however, he does have a soft spot for her, again, shown in his ending in which he does not try very hard to get away from L'Arachel. Although he is a rogue, he is the son of a wealthy merchant from Carcino, but was forced to work for what he has at a young age.[7]

Endings

Rennac, Rich "Merchant"
L'Arachel summoned Rennac back to Rausten, and he was forced to return. He was never able to escape his service to the self-centered princess who became queen. Admittedly, he didn't try very hard.

Rennac: Rich "Merchant"

Here’s Rennac, a thief from Carcino! He’s one of L’Arachel’s traveling companions, charged with keeping her safe on her mission to rid the land of monsters! Well, I say “companion,” but strictly speaking, Rennac was hired to protect her…and he doesn’t seem very happy about the way the Princess of Rausten treats him compared to the way she treats their other companion—her retainer, Dozla. I hear that Rennac’s father was one of the greatest merchants in Carcino, but also incredibly miserly. He insisted that his son earn his keep with hard work, and so, unable to benefit from his family’s fortune, young Rennac turned to thievery instead. In Rennac’s view, money is the only thing worth believing in. Well, if that’s what it’ll take to win him over, I’m sure the Order of Heroes can afford to keep him motivated!
