As with many characters in ''Gaiden'', Kliff received minimal personality aside from his loyalty to [[Alm]], owing to having little dialogue. “ | To keep another's secret is a sign of strength and trust. But when we hold our own secrets in, we're only judging everyone else. | ” | — Kliff |
---|
Kliff (Japanese: クリフ Qulyf) is a Zofian villager appearing in Fire Emblem Gaiden and Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. He is from Ram and is one of the first people to accompany Alm.
Fire Emblem Gaiden
Role
He is one of the first characters recruited in the game. He agrees to follow Alm and seize Zofia's castle at the beginning of the game. Aside from his recruitment he has no other dialogue or story role.
After the war, he says his farewells and vanishes to parts unknown.

Promotion stat gains
Soldier Cavalier Mage Archer Mercenary
- In Gaiden, promotion gains give the character as many points as necessary—the "x" value shown in the table—to reach the promoted class' base stats. If the character's stats are higher than their promoted class' base stats, they will not receive any bonus; however, if all stats are higher, then they will receive +1 to HP.
Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Of the starting villagers, Kliff is the best candidate to become a mage; this is due to his learned spells. Compared to Tobin's and Gray's lackluster spell lists, Kliff learns more spells overall and at earlier levels. Additionally, Kliff's only competition for mage is Luthier and Delthea, who both join much later in the game.
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
Role
Kliff, like in Gaiden, is a friend of Alm's, and lives in Ram Village alongside Gray, Tobin, Mycen, and now Faye. He is an optional unit for Alm to recruit, making his role minimal past his recruitment. During Act 2, he can be recruited by Celica instead, if he wasn't picked up by Alm.

Promotion stat gains
Soldier Cavalier Mage Archer Mercenary
- In Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, promotion gains give the character as many points as necessary—the "x" value shown in the table—to reach the promoted class' base stats. If the character's stats are higher than their promoted class' base stats, they will not receive any bonus; however, if all stats are higher, then they will receive +1 to HP.
Analysis

Kliff is effective as either an archer or a mage. Kliff has lots of Speed to make up for the heavy weight of bows and +15 accuracy from his support with Tobin to fix their low hit, but in the post-game his Speed is wasted since Archers can use the Killer Bow to get a guaranteed double attack. As a Mage, his spell pool is only rivaled by Celica in the sheer amount of ways he can kill the enemy. Cavalier is also a popular choice for Kliff, although he faces competition from Mathilda and Zeke in that role later down the line.

Role
Kliff is one of the characters added to the game in the Brave Redux update, and became available for summoning by players on October 23, 2018. Only one variation of Kliff is currently available in Heroes, based on his Echoes: Shadows of Valentia incarnation.

Personality and character
This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.
As with many characters in Gaiden, Kliff received minimal personality aside from his loyalty to Alm, owing to having little dialogue. Shadows of Valentia expands on his character somewhat, as he is shown to speak maturely for his age and express disdain for unimportant conversations, as shown through his supports with Tobin.

Ending
Gaiden
When the war ended, he bid farewell to Alm. Afterwards, he was never seen again.
Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
With the war over, Kliff bid Alm farewell and vanished—with some speculating that he left for a new continent. Decades later, a young man claiming to be Kliff's son arrived in Valentia to serve the king. The boy was said to have a tremendous gift for magic.

Other appearances
Fire emblem Gaiden manga
Like the game, Kliff joins the Deliverance alongside Alm. As the Gaiden manga skips the opening events of the game, Kliff's first appearance is after the liberation of Zofia castle. He has become a mage, and claims his gift for magic comes from his grandmother.
Shortly after freeing Zofia castle Alm learns that Desaix is holding Mathilda hostage, and Alm insists that they rescue her immediately, Kliff agrees to go on the rescue mission. During the fighting Kliff helps Mathilda, cheerfully mentioning that Clive was the one who was supposed to rescue Mathilda.
While Kliff is having a few words with Mathilda he is killed by Desaix, who impales him with a lance from behind.
