Excalibur is a term applied to two similar yet somewhat distinct magic tomes from different continuities, known by different Japanese names from each other but given the same name in the English releases. In both incarnations it is effectively a wind tome, but appears in games which do not distinguish between certain types of magic.
The first version of Excalibur (エクスカリバー Excalibur) is a recurring tome of some importance in the Archanea tetralogy, ostensibly the personal tome of Merric, though in the remakes it is usable by any male unit with the required weapon rank. The tome is a powerful weapon passed down through a succession of Khadein mages, with its most recent inheritor being Merric, given to him by his teacher Wendell; and it was Merric's inheritance of it which eventually sparked Ellerean's insurrection. It possesses a high critical rate and (from Monshou no Nazo onward) deals effective damage against fliers. It also appears in Fire Emblem Gaiden as a Black Magic spell learned by most of the game's mages.
The second version of Excalibur (ギガスカリバー Gigascalibur) is an S-rank anima tome in two of the Game Boy Advance installments. In Blazing Sword, the tome is wielded in the Final Chapter by the Ursula morph, obtainable upon her defeat; its origin is here undefined, along with the other S-rank weapons of the game. In The Sacred Stones, Excalibur appears alongside Audhulma as one of Jehanna's Sacred Twin relics, given to Eirika by Jehanna's Prince Joshua after her reclamation of Jehanna Hall.
