Atlas (Japanese: アトラス Atlas) is a villager appearing in Fire Emblem Gaiden. His siblings were kidnapped and and enslaved by the pirate overlord Grieth.
Fire Emblem Gaiden
Role
Atlas is the only villager recruited by Celica's party in normal gameplay. He meets Celica in the Mountain Village and joins her when he learns that Celica is planning on opposing Grieth; Atlas's siblings have been kidnapped and he has been looking for a way to rescue them.

Promotion stat gains
Soldier Knight Mage Archer Mercenary
- Note: In Gaiden, promotion gains consist of giving the character as many points as necessary—the "x" value shown in the table—to reach the promoted class' base stats. If the character's stats are higher than their promoted class' base stats, they will not receive any bonus; however, if all stats are higher, then they will receive +1 to HP.
Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Atlas's late join time and low level makes him hard to make useful. Generally, the effort put into catching him up to the rest of Celica's party yields low returns. Atlas does not fill any particular niches that are not already taken by units already in Celica's party.
At the very least, he does not need to be trained as a villager at all, as he comes above the required promotion level, and can be promoted to a more useful class right away. Of his base stats only his HP and strength are acceptable for his join time. His other base stats are abysmal, and his low speed growth means he gets doubled often and will be attacking less, blunting the usefulness of his decent base strength.
With promotion bonuses he can make a somewhat competent mercenary, though the player is likely to be using at least one of the four other better mercenaries available to Celica. He is the only unit that joins Celica's party by default that can become a Cavalier, without the Dread Fighter promotion loop, anyway. The usefulness of Cavalier is not particularly high due to the large amount of harsh terrain encountered in Celica's journey and Atlas being too slow and fragile. Atlas's spell selection is abysmal, and Celica has access to a wealth of mages that are much better. Atlas will be outperformed by Valbar as a defensive Knight. Atlas may have some hope as an archer, as he can simply stay away from enemies and do minor damage from afar. However, Leon is very likely to be higher level than Atlas and already perform better than him, so Atlas still needs to catch up before he can even dream of equaling or outperforming Leon.
Atlas can be used to replace someone that has died, though he will still need to be trained significantly in skirmishes.
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
Role
Atlas reprises his role as the only Villager in Celica's party.

- Atlas will leave Celica's party and return to Mountain Village after Storming of the Valley Approach is cleared if Grieth's Citadel has not been visited.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Atlas joins Celica's party relatively late as the only Villager on her route. While this should theoretically afford him great flexibility as he has access to all male class paths without the use of a Villager's Fork, Celica's side of the story has no shortage of viable Mages nor Mercenaries and Valbar will more than likely outclass him as a Knight.
Atlas makes for a decent Cavalier, where his only competition is Conrad (and Kliff if he was left unrecruited in Alm's route) who joins even later. Atlas is unlikely to leave Conrad in the dust by the point the latter joins the party, and neither will Conrad outshine him. The two of them excel in different areas; Conrad will have an easier time hitting and doubling enemies, while also taking hits from mages, while Atlas will do significantly more damage than him, turning him into a heat-seeking missile when combining excellent mobility with his colossal strength growth.
Atlas's true potential is unlocked if he is promoted into the Archer line, as he is able to abuse the coveted Hunter's Volley combat art of the Killer Bow. This will circumvent his issues in speed and capitalize on his excellent attack growth, so he should be able to deal stellar damage at range, even if his low skill growths will not yield him a high critical chance. He will also do well with other combat arts, such as Heavy Draw or Curved Shot, but his ability to abuse Hunter's Volley is his main defining feature over his only competition in the route, Leon. Once promoted into a Bow Knight, Atlas will also have the mobility bonus of the cavalier line at his disposal, further solidifying this class path as his best choice.
Overall, Atlas will need some investment to become useful to the player. They will likely need to train him up in skirmishes and make sure he reaches the appropriate weapon level to use Killer Bows. Atlas will also not want to take hits on enemy phase, so he should be screened by his teammates on the battlefield. All of this investment should prove worthwhile as Atlas will eventually turn out to be a decent combat unit if he receives the appropriate care and equipment.

Personality and character
When Celica encounters Atlas in the story for the first time, he is driven by revenge; he wishes to avenge his brothers, who were kidnapped by bandits some time ago. He has a single-minded obsession with that goal, but travelling with Celica gives him the chance to rescue his brothers, which he is grateful for. Afterward, he remains in her party until the end, eager to repay her for her kindness.[2]
Atlas is well-meaning but eager to get into physical scuffles, and tends to solve problems with fists and emotions. He cares about his family more than anything, but he also enjoys "scrapping" with others.[3] Atlas can be reckless and jumps to violent solutions even when they are not preferable.[4] Atlas maintains a simplistic mindset, but he is self-aware about it and wants to fight for a good cause.
Atlas is unsophisticated, and he struggles in his interactions with Celica, whom he views as refined and dignified; he admits he has no clue what to talk about whenever she is around.[5] Atlas wants a simple life above anything else—he enjoys residing in the mountain and cutting down trees.[6] While he understands that getting wealthy is beneficial to his family, he does not think it makes their lives easier, as he would be absent and could not protect them.[7]

Gaiden
After locating his younger siblings, he returned with them to their mountain village. It’s said that he’s now returned to being a woodcutter like he used to be.
Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
After returning to the mountain home where his brothers waited, Atlas resumed life as a lumberjack—though his work defending the village from bandits continued to win him admiration. While retired from the army, he was always first to aid the queen in times of need.
