It has been proposed that this page be split into Divine Pulse and Divine Pulse (skill). Please discuss this change on the talk page or on Discord. Reason: I think that it would be better to have the mechanic page separate from the skill |
Divine Pulse (Japanese: 天刻の拍動 Heavenly Time's Pulse) is the name of a mechanic appearing in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. It offers the limited ability to rewind turns in battle to undo unit actions.
Role
At the end of first chapter of Three Houses, Kostas recovers from his injuries and attempts to attack Edelgard, but Byleth sacrifices themselves to protect her. They have another vision of the girl, who scolds them for being so reckless, introduces herself as Sothis, and grants them the ability to rewind time with Divine Pulse. Byleth redoes the past several seconds and this time counters Kostas' strike and drives him off.
Later during Tales of the Red Canyon, Sothis recounts that the Red Canyon Zanado triggered some of her hidden memories and bids Byleth travel there to investigate. As Byleth departs, they are noticed by the lord character, who rounds up the other students and follows them. Byleth arrives at Zanado, but is suddenly attacked by a pack of giant animals led by a Demonic Beast. Byleth is rescued by their students, and together they drive off the animals. Afterwards, the lord character berates Byleth for their recklessness, and they agree to pass off the day's events as a training exercise. Sothis apologizes to Byleth for nearly getting them killed, but manages to awaken an improved Divine Pulse in the process.
Overview
Like Mila's Turnwheel, the Divine Pulse can be used to rewind turns and undo actions as, for example, to save characters that have died in classic mode due to tactical error. It can be used to rewind time to any point during a battle, including midway through a turn or even to the beginning of the battle. It is activated by pressing the ZR button and once an action is undone, it cannot be redone using the Divine Pulse. In addition, Divine Pulse will activate automatically should a situation occur that would normally result in a Game Over, provided that there are still charges remaining. Also like the turnwheel, the initial number of uses is three, with the ability to increase it with either the use of Renown points at the four saint statues in the monastery’s Cathedral or through the Tales of the Red Canyon paralogue, up to a maximum of 13 uses in Normal and Hard, and 10 uses in Maddening. Divine Pulse uses will refresh after every battle.
