“ | Who of you doesn't recognise this sword? I must warn you: the Mystletainn craves blood! So, who wants to be its first victim? | ” | — Ares, to Bramsel |
---|
Ares (アレス Aless) is the son and heir of Eldigan the Lionheart of the Agustrian state of Nordion, a full-blooded descendant of the Crusader Hezul, and the inheritor of the Demon Sword Mystletainn. As an infant, after he and his mother Grahnye fled to Leonster in the wake of Agustrian civil war and the execution of his father, he was orphaned following Leonster's fall and adopted by the mercenary Jabarro[1]. As he aged he became a mercenary himself working for Jabarro's group, and developed a reputation as the "Black Knight". Eventually on a job in Darna in Grann 777, he left Jabarro's service and allied with Seliph in his revolution against the Grannvale Empire.
Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
Role
While on deployment in Darna with Jabarro's force in the employ of Bramsel, he received word of the approach of the Isaach liberation army under Seliph. He remarked his eagerness to confront the son of Sigurd, his father's "sworn enemy", to Leen*, whom he had befriended while at Darna. He stopped Bramsel from attempting to sexually assault Leen, threatening him with the Mystletainn and causing him to back down. After the fall of Fort Melgln, Ares was sent out with Jabarro's army to attack Seliph's army before they could come for Darna; shortly afterward, he swore to cut ties with Jabarro after Jabarro told him to leave Leen to her inevitable fate at Bramsel's hands.
Ares then encountered Seliph on the battlefield and revealed to him the claim of Sigurd's role as Eldigan's mortal enemy, and was met by Seliph's claim of Eldigan and Sigurd being close friends. Shocked at the possibility of his worldview being wrong, he chose to temporarily ally with Seliph until he could straighten out the reality of the situation. He soon received confirmation of this from his cousin Nanna, who presented him with a letter from Eldigan himself addressed directly to Ares, which she had inherited from her mother and Eldigan's sister Raquesis.[2]

Genealogy of the Holy War
After its civil war, Agustria was annexed by Grannvale and was under the supervision of a strict and despotic administration.
And so, the establishment of a new united nation was the wish of everyone, and that wish was entrusted to Eldigan the Lionheart’s Royal House of Nordion.
The people welcomed Ares’ return to the country with wild enthusiasm, as they saw in Ares the likeness of King Eldigan in his prime.
Ares returned to the country along with, among others,
His sweetheart, <wife>,
The knight Delmud/Tristan,
Nanna/Janne
And together with them, he devoted himself with all his strength to the reconstruction of an united Agustria.
Before long, under the reign of King Ares, Agustria, as Grannvale’s most influent partner, will have an unprecedented development.
