“ | A millennium ago... Man chased dragonkind from the land, exiled us. We had no place to go... not on this world. So we used the Dragon's Gate to flee into another world. | ” | — Nils |

History
The absolute origin of the Gate is unknown, but its primary known use by the dragons was to escape mankind after their victory in The Scouring. The Dragon's Gate appears to have been built some time prior to or during the Scouring, as Nergal tells his children Ninian and Nils to escape through the gate if he were not to return after his search for Aenir.[1][2]
The world on the other side of the Dragon's Gate in Elibe is never specified, though if Fates' version of the Dragon's Gate is any indication, the gate may lead to multiple worlds.
Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
During the events of The Binding Blade, the existence of the Dragon's Gate does not seem to be within public knowledge. It is not featured within The Binding Blade at all, though the plot of The Blazing Blade, its prequel, means it exists.
Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade
The Dragon's Gate has its largest main story role in The Blazing Blade, as it is a tool of the primary antagonist, Nergal in the next step in his quest for power. Nergal intended to trick dragons into crossing the gate so he could steal their quintessence and become even more powerful. However, he was thwarted and, depending on certain conditions, Ninian and Nils, or Nils alone, depart through the Dragon's Gate and seals it from the other side.
The Dragon's Gate appears in the final chapter of The Blazing Blade as the setting for the final battle against the dragon.
Fire Emblem Fates
The Dragon's Gate takes a minor side-role in Fates. The only information given of it is that it was built by the First Dragons.
In gameplay
- Main article:
Downloadable content in Fire Emblem Fates
In Fates, the Dragon's Gate is the new incarnation of the Outrealm Gate. Like its The Blazing Blade appearance, the gate is used to travel to other worlds. In the context of Fates this means that the player is able to purchase Downloadable Content through the Dragon's Gate.
Trivia
- Prior to Fire Emblem Awakening, the Elibean Dragon's Gate is the first instance of inter-realm travel in the Fire Emblem series.
- Unused text in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia implies that the Dragon's Gate may have been a planned location, or just a leftover from Fates. It is erroneously translated as "Dragon Gate" in the English version.
