Mycen (Japanese: マイセン Maisen) is a former Zofian general of great renown, acclaimed by many as "Zofia's greatest hero". In his efforts to stop fellow general Desaix from murdering the children of the Zofian royal family, he was instead branded as the perpetrator and forced to flee into seclusion in Ram Village, taking with him the sole surviving princess of Zofia, Anthiese.[2] During his exile, he was visited by the Emperor of Rigel, Rudolf, who entrusted Mycen with both his plans to save Valentia and with his newborn son, Prince Albein.[3]
Years later, at the onset of war between Zofia and Rigel, Mycen declined to lead the Zofian resistance against Desaix's coup and Rigel, leaving Alm to lead the charge in his place; nonetheless, he soon emerged from Ram to watch over the rise of Alm and Celica as heroic figures in defense of both Zofia and Valentia as a whole.
Fire Emblem Gaiden
Role
When Lukas came to Ram seeking Mycen's participation in the Zofian resistance, he vehemently refused to do so or to allow Alm to join; even so, he later arrived at Zofia Castle to confer with both Alm and Celica as they set out on their journeys. Following Alm's defeat of Rudolf at Rigel Castle, Mycen related to him the story of Rudolf and his plans, then joined his army to assist in the fight against Duma.

Personality and character
Mycen's experiences with Desaix embittered him with the outside world, and in particular he opposed conflict and participating in it, though he would later relent and entrust Alm with the leadership of the Deliverance;[4] others came to regard him as cowardly for his refusal to fight, despite this hardly being the case.[5] With respect to his meeting with Rudolf, he remarked that he was both shaken and impressed by Rudolf's resolve to condemn himself, motivating him to take a chance on fate with respect to Alm's role.[6]

Trivia
- Mycen serves as the narrator for the advertisements of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.
- Despite his level increasing, most of Mycen's stats decrease between the prologue of Shadows of Valentia and his return at the end of Act 4. This can easily be explained by his advanced age taking a toll on his battle capabilities.
