To Slay a God is the twenty-fifth chapter in Fire Emblem Awakening, and the penultimate chapter along its main story path. The Shepherds have arrived at Origin Peak in hopes of catching up to and defeating Grima. Standing in their way is a wave of Grimleal led by Aversa making one last stand for herself.
In addition to unlocking the final chapter in the storyline, completing this chapter is necessary in order to reach the six paralogue chapters unlockable via SpotPass.

Chrom witnesses the volcanic power of Origin Peak for himself as he arrives on the scene; Naga tells Chrom that Grima is indeed in the area, then reminds Chrom that the power she gave him cannot destroy Grima, to which Robin states it can only put him/her back to sleep, to which Naga confirms. Robin asks how Naga knows of his/her lineage, to which Naga says he/she possesses power not so different from her own. Chrom states that the Shepherds must find some way to break this unholy cycle--they can't just keep putting Grima back to sleep every few centuries, otherwise they merely will his vengeance on their descendants. Robin states he/she may know a way--after a reaction from Chrom, Robin states that Validar's hierophant claimed he/she and Grima were the same; if Robin strikes the final blow, Grima would be killed by his/her own hand, to which Chrom sees as ingenious and asks Naga if it would work. Naga states Robin's plan might work, but there would be consequences--Grima's heart and Robin's are inexorably linked and can no longer be separated, and as a result, killing Grima would also cause the end of Robin's life. Robin says he/she realizes this and is ready; Naga says there is a small chance Robin could survive, as Robin has bound his/her heart to those of many others in this world, and if those ties prove strong enough, they may yet keep Robin within this reality. If Robin is male, Naga tells him she would not give him false hope--the chance he would live is insignificant; if Robin is female, Naga tells her that not even a thousand human friendships can surpass Grima's grip; either way, Naga states that, in truth, Robin will almost certainly cease to exist. After a silent reaction from Robin, Chrom shockingly reacts to that revelation, denying it and saying they'll find another way; Robin tells Chrom he's not thinking clearly, and asks him to think about what Emmeryn would have wanted, to which Chrom says Emmeryn would never have asked Robin to sacrifice himself/herself. Robin asks what a single life is when weighed against millions, to which Chrom asks Robin to stop thinking about sacrifice--he/she is one of the Shepherds and always will be, and there has to be another way to deal with Grima, they just have to find it. Chrom asks Robin to promise him he/she won't sacrifice himself/herself. The player is prompted to answer whether or not they will promise Chrom not to sacrifice himself/herself. If the player refuses to make the promise, Robin will tell Chrom he has always been very kind to him/her, but this is his/her decision, to which Chrom delivers a worried reaction; if the player decides to make the promise, Robin tells Chrom he/she is right and attempts to apologize, to which Chrom says the two of them swore to stand by each other, that they're two halves of a whole that not even Grima can sever. Naga tells Chrom that the time for deliberation is over--the Grimleal have arrived, to which Lucina tells Chrom that they're under attack. Battle preparations take place at this point.
Once preparations are complete, Aversa notices the Shepherds and asks if they're still at their little schemes, as if butchering Validar weren't enough. Aversa then asks the Shepherds that their great struggle has won them nothing--Grima has returned and the world's fate is sealed. Aversa then asks the Shepherds if they simply seek a tender embrace at the end, as she's not completely cruel--Aversa says she has a kiss for each of the Shepherds. Naga tells Chrom to be swift, as the Grimleal will harry the Shepherds to the very last, and they must reach Grima before it is too late. The battle begins at this point.
Grima's loud roar is heard as the battle ends. Lissa asks what the roar was, to which Lucina states is Grima's call. We cut to a shot of clouds parting to reveal Grima, with Lucina shouting her reaction to his/her presence. Chrom states they can defeat him/her, to which Frederick asks how a man can challenge a mountain and where would one even strike; Naga reveals Grima has a weakenss on the nape of his/her neck, a weakness that will be guarded by his servants. Naga says she can send the Shepherds onto Grima's back, but the rest is in the Shepherds' hands, to which Chrom asks Naga to do so and quickly--they would ask no more of her. Chrom asks the Shepherds to gird themselves, as one way or another this struggle is about to finally end.
Summary
The final battle looms, as does a choice: return Grima to his slumber with Chrom's sword or slay the dragon in exchange for Robin's life.

Trivia
- This chapter is one of few chapters in the game where the battle preparations theme does not play during that phase of setup. This is the only instance in Awakening where the music that plays during battle preparations is neither the normal theme nor the music from the previous cutscene.
