Renewal (chapter)/Script
In the aftermath of Emmeryn's execution, the Sheperds continue their escape, Basilio leading the way. Briefly stopping, along with Chrom and Robin, Basilio reveals that there are carriages waiting just through the ravine. Chrom is at a loss for words, which Robin tries to snap him out of; Chrom states he's coming. Basilio tells the Shepherds to hurry up, that they're almost--then gets cut off by the arrival of Plegian brigands, to which Basilio replies that he knew the escape couldn't be this easy. The Plegians are right in their way, and the Shepherds must fight. Preparations take place at this point.
Once preparations are finished, the leader of this group of Plegians, Mustafa, states that he offers the Ylisseans mercy--surrender to him now and live. Basilio states he's not familiar with the word "surrender"; Mustafa states that Emmeryn would not have wished for this struggle to come to bloodshed, to which Chrom asks he not speak Emmeryn's name. Mustafa tells Chrom his rage is justified, yet the meaning of Emmeryn's sacrifice was not lost on him--he suspects many Plegians who heard her final words would say the same. Mustafa tells Chrom that, if the Shepherds lay down their weapons, he'll protect them as best as he can. Frederick asks Mustafa how they could trust him after all what Gangrel has done, and says the Shepherds will take their chances with weapons in hand; Mustafa suspected Frederick would say as much, and says he'll endeavor to grant Chrom a swift and dignified end. The battle begins at this point.
Once the player phase of the first turn completes, Mustafa notices thieves on the battlefield--thieves that comb the area for trinkets and spoils, then scurry away like mice. Mustafa promises he'll bring the thieves to justice later, the Ylisseans are top priority.
One whole turn later, after player phase of the second turn, a Plegian soldier asks Mustafa to forgive him, but he no longer sees the justice in hunting the Shepherds down. The soldier is prepared to accept any punishment he sees fit. A wyvern rider confronts him, there's no reason for the solider to question Mustafa's orders, that the soldier knows full well the punishment for insubordination is death. The soldier tries to reveal a good quality about the Shepherds; Mustafa cuts him off, stating that these questions are not theirs to ponder, that the soldier does not judge, the soldier delivers judgement. The soldier reveals he cannot raise his lance against the Shepherds, even if it means death; Mustafa asks the solider if he was present at Emmeryn's execution, precisely the moment she spoke. Mustafa decides "so be it", anyone unwilling to fight is dismissed. The soldier states he doesn't want to abandon Mustafa; Mustafa reveals he cannot defy Gangrel, as he knows him well--Gangrel would murder Mustafa's wife and child to set an example. Mustafa reveals he's willing to accept the blame for the soldier's actions, and asks him to leave. The soldier asks Mustafa to wait, that he does see a cause worth fighting for, one he believes in: loyalty to his general. Mustafa reveals the soldier did a good thing.
After three whole turns have passed, Mustafa calls for reinforcements--draw the Shepherds close, then strike.
As Mustafa is defeated, he congratulates the Shepherds, and ask that they spare the rest of his men. The battle ends at this point; as this happens, a woman named Olivia arrives on the scene and greets Basilio. Basilio tells Olivia he's sorry he kept her waiting; Olivia reveals when she didn't hear from him, she assumed the worst. Basilio introduces Chrom and Robin to Olivia, the person who will be smuggling the Shepherds out of the area; Olivia says this'll happen only if they hurry, as she has no doubt that more of Gangrel's men are on their way. Basilio asks everyone to pile in and bid farewell to "this Plegian hellhole". Olivia asks if the Shepherds are ready, and to hold on tight. The player can now save their game at this point.
Back at Castle Ferox, where Chrom, Frederick, and Robin have gathered; Robin states they've gone through a lot for nothing. Lissa is still crying over Emmeryn's death, with Frederick stating he should have died before allowing Emmeryn to be captured--that he has failed as a knight. Flavia asks Basilio what's next; Basilio asks not to look to him, as he's not in charge, with Flavia stating she picked a "fine time" to regain the full throne. Robin apologizes to Chrom for his/her plan not being enough; Chrom tells Robin he/she did his/her best and thanks him/her, it's his own failures that haunt him now, how he was powerless. Robin tells Chrom it wasn't his fault either; Chrom states Emmeryn did what she did for him, choosing for him so that he wouldn't have to live with the guilt of either choice, sacrificing herself rather than give up what could one day save her people. Robin asks Chrom listen to and look at him/her--he/she was once powerless as well, and alone neither of them were half the person Emmeryn was, yet together they could be something more. If Chrom falls, Robin'll be there to pull him right back up. When Chrom fights for Emmeryn's ideals, Robin'll be right by his side. Chrom doesn't have to become Emmeryn--he can still be true to himself, he just has to give people hope in whatever way he can. Chrom asks what if he can't, what if he's not worthy of Emmeryn's ideals, what if he drags Robin down with him; Robin tells Chrom that, if he's not worthy, he'll keep at it until he is, and if they both fall down--that's what friends are for. A string of words of support follows--first from Nowi, then from Tharja, Lon'qu, Virion, and Ricken; Chrom thanks them, that their words mean more than they could know. Chrom thinks of the Shepherds, and states there is work to be done--Gangrel must be stopped so peace can once again reign in Ylisse. Chrom then asks for words of encouragement; he gets them from Lissa, Maribelle, Stahl, Sully, Libra, Sumia, Kellam, Vaike, Gregor, Panne, and Frederick, to which Chrom again thanks them, that they honor him with their fealty. Chrom vows to not falter again, that they shall answer this outrage, that Gangrel must be stopped; Flavia agrees, saying that it's time for Gangrel to get a dose of his own vulnerary and that the whole of the Ferox army is Chrom's to send crashing against him. Basilio notes the young people have hot passions, that if he had any gray hairs, they would have singed them right off--in other words, count him in. Olivia asks if she could go as well, that Emmeryn once did her a kind favor; Chrom asks if it's true, which Olivia confirms, then says it would be an honor for her to have a part in delivering justice, even though all she can do is dance--not even skilled at that. Basilio notes Olivia's modesty and calls her a Feroxi treasure, that they won't meet a finer dancer in all the realms--her moves inspire soldiers to work twice as hard, and Chrom would do well to bring her along. Basilio reveals that Flavia will lead him and the other Feroxi in a head-on assault; that should buy Chrom enough time to take down Gangrel. Basilio has every confidence of Chrom and Robin--Chrom being a natural-born leader, Robin having a knack for guiding troops to victory; they both have some growing to do, but he can already see they'll grow tall. After Chrom thanks Basilio, Basilio says there's been enough talk, it's time to raise some hell. Gangrel might try to hit them while the Shepherds are still licking their wounds; Chrom dares Gangrel to try, he's ready to dethrone him once and for all.
Summary

Trivia
- This chapter is one of few chapters in the game where the preparations theme doesn't play during that phase of setup. In this case, the music from the preceding cutscene continues onto the battle preparations screen.
- The music that plays during battle in this chapter does not change in any way whatsoever between the map, the player phase battle, and the enemy phase battle; the music also continues when facing the boss, despite bosses normally playing a completely different piece of music from the main battle.
- During the part where Chrom gets word of encouragement from the Sheperds, Miriel, Gaius and Cordelia were the only ones who were absent.
