The army arrives at the final gateway to the Hoshidan throne room. Corrin urges Garon to seize the throne so they can watch his ascension, but Garon orders everyone to stay back and not to enter without his permission while he consults with Anankos. Garon begins to gloat, and soon enters the throne room on his own. As they wait, Corrin asks the group to be patient so that they can see Garon's true form. As they speak, however, Iago appears from behind and attacks them. Azura questions why Iago attacked Corrin, but he retracts the question to Corrin about Hinoka's true fate, which they deny, but Iago informs them that while Corrin was fighting Ryoma, he had soldiers search the castle grounds, finding Hinoka alive as she was escaping. | ||

Iago warns Xander to stay out of the way or he too will be labeled a traitor for such, but Xander stays firm in his decision, and challenges him to a duel, telling Iago he is sick of his cruel and coward ways, and that he is a disgrace to Nohr and he is taking it back from him. Leo steps in as well, also dissatisfied with Iago's cruelty and wishes to kill him as well. Iago is frightened by this and attempts to dissuade them from killing him as he is Garon's loyal adviser, but Xander warns him he can't talk his way out of this and that Garon isn't here to protect him anymore, and states that he can simply inform Garon that he was murdered by remaining Hoshidan rebels to avoid punishment for killing him. Iago is shocked and begins protesting against this, but Elise shuts him up and angrily tells him he has no right to judge them, that he and Hans are both guilty for killing many innocents and attempting to kill Corrin many times, bluntly tells him she always hated both of them and will make them pay for their actions. Camilla also joins in to kill Iago, decrying him for his many awful deeds and warns him that anyone who tries to hurt Corrin will die by her hands. Iago cowers in fear, since the entire Nohrian siblings are against him and Hans is also shocked at their "betrayal", but he disregards them and threatens to kill all of them, not caring about their royal status and calling them "weak". Azura accepts his challenge, saying she will take back the place she grew up in. With the royals backing them up, Corrin, no longer intimidated by Iago's threats and standing up to him, decides to act like a "merciless killer" and begins to enact vengeance on Iago, Hans and Garon's loyalist and threatens them they may be from Nohr, but they will punish them all the same and make them all pay with their lives for their crimes against the innocent and destroying Nohr's reputation, and they and their army begin their assault on Garon's loyalist. | ||

Iago pleads more by accusing Garon of placing him to fight and that they should punish Garon, not him and that he doesn't deserve to die. His pleas falls deaf on their ears and Iago begs Leo to have him spared, but Leo calls him out for his treacherous schemes, especially causing great suffering towards Corrin and warns him he has no mercy to spare him and will kill him. Iago watches helplessly as Leo executes him, dying in vain as he failed to kill Corrin and the Hoshidian royals, as well as foiling his schemes and tactics to make Corrin suffer, as they pulled through his schemes each time. | ||
While the Nohrian family celebrates their victory over Iago's death, knowing he will not torment Corrin or anyone ever again, and that this was their "final battle", Azura urges Corrin to speak up. Corrin finally tells them that the war isn't over just yet, as there is still one more person they need to kill in order to achieve peace; that person being King Garon himself. The siblings are astonished, horrified at the thought of having to kill their own father, and Xander demands that they explain themselves. Remembering all that they have lost up to this point, Lilith, Ryoma and even themselves to an extent, Corrin reveals the truth to them that Garon is no longer human; that he has become a monster, being kept alive by someone or something truly unholy, and that there's no way to save him anymore, and killing him is the only option. Xander and the siblings are unwilling to believe this, but Corrin forces them to listen to their words and that they are telling the truth. Corrin and Azura bring the siblings to the door to the throne room, where the truth will all be made clear to them. | ||

“ | If it’s a fight you want, Hans, it’s a fight you’re going to get. I always try to avoid needless violence... but there's an exception to every rule. You want to see me act more like you? Like a merciless killer? Then watch this. You may be on the side of Nohr, but I will punish you all the same! | ” | — Corrin standing up to Hans and Iago. |
---|
Treason (Japanese: 悪逆 Treachery) is the twenty-sixth chapter of the Conquest campaign in Fire Emblem Fates. In this chapter, Iago discovers Corrin's treason and attempts to kill them, but Xander and the Nohrian siblings turn against him and with the siblings by their side, Corrin finally puts an end to Iago and Hans' crimes by killing them.

Treason/Script
Angered that Corrin let Hinoka escape, he threatens Corrin's treason to Nohr with death, but Xander quickly steps in to defend them, refusing to let Iago kill Corrin.
In the end, Corrin and the Nohrian royals kill Hans and Garon's loyalist, ending their disgraceful crimes and back Iago into a corner, where he cowers and attempts to beg for his life, but Corrin tells him to have some dignity and let the royals finish him off.
Summary
Nohr now controls the Hoshidan capital, but the real battle is just beginning. The children of Nohr stand together to face a treacherous enemy.

Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
Your units start off at the top of the map, while the area to seize is occupied by Iago in the middle of the room. There are several doors blocking the way to him, and they can be be opened with Locktouch or broken through with attacks. The doors have 50 hitpoints.
The first room entered will contain Heroes. On Normal mode, they are not much of a threat. However, on Hard, a Maid will be present with Freeze and Enfeeble. On Hard mode, the Heroes will each get a random skill on them (though not pre-generated). On Lunatic mode, the first four will have Counter; the two at the front with Strong Riposte, while the rear two will have Quick Draw instead. The next two Heroes will have Swordfaire and Lucky Seven, and the final two will have Aegis and Darting Blow. Regardless of difficulty, at least three Heroes will carry Wyrmslayers, so keeping Corrin and any wyvern-riding units to the rear until they are killed is a good choice. This Maid's staves will also get replaced with a Hexing Rod. Be wary of the right-side Maid who carries an Entrap staff on Hard mode!
Next, you can decide between going left or right. The west side contains multiple Faceless and several Stoneborn, while the east side has Sorcerers and Maids. On higher difficulties, the west part is considerably dangerous, due to the massive amount of damage chipping skills the monsters possess, in addition to the fact that your units will be pelted by Stoneborn rocks. The east side does not see much of an increase, apart from the Sorcerers gaining various magical skills on them.
Iago will always use his staves in a set order: first Enfeeble, then Freeze, then Silence, then the Hexing Rod on Lunatic, and then the cycle continues again from the beginning. He will not use a staff unless a unit is in its range. If the only units in his range during his Silence turns do not use magic, he will simply not use a staff, then use either Enfeeble or the Hexing Rod on his next turn depending on the difficulty. As his staff usage follows this set pattern, it can potentially be planned around so that less combat-active units take the effects in place of more important ones. Given how large his staff range is, doing so will likely be necessary at some point during the mission.
Trivia
- This chapter includes one of, if not the, only chests in the Fire Emblem series to have a variable reward that is not randomized.
- This is one of only two chapters in the Conquest route where the Nohrian faction is fought, the other being Conquest Chapter 18.
- This is the only time in all three routes where Hans and Iago are fought in the same chapter.
- The title of this chapter refers to Corrin's "treason" being exposed by Iago and attempting to kill them, but fails due to the Nohrian royals intervention and he himself is killed for his "treason".
