Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem

Silence (Japanese: サイレス Silence) is an offensive staff which was introduced in Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem. It is a status-inflicting staff which inflicts silence status on opponents, inhibiting the use of magic and the ability to talk for a period of time. Although it is a staff in most of its appearances, it is instead a rod in Fates due to being aligned with Hoshido and white magic in Echoes: Shadows of Valentia due to that game's lack of staves.

In Mystery of the Emblem and its remake, New Mystery of the Emblem, Silence completely inhibits all magic from being used by any unit on the field, both allied and enemy, for a single turn. In all other games, Silence affects one unit per cast and is not guaranteed to hit. Units with high resistance are less likely to be successfully struck by a cast of Silence. Like most status staves, Silence operates over a long range and does not require the staff user to be adjacent to the enemy.
