“ | It is possible that death has yet to find your friend. But there are worse things than death. Drifting through the darkness with no chance to escape... Overwhelmed with hopelessness... It must be torturous. | ” | — Solon, after sending Byleth to Zahras |

Zahras (pronounced /ˈzɑ.həˌɹɑs/[key]; Japanese: ザラス Zahras) is a location in Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. It is an empty void entirely separate from Fódlan, and can only be accessed through a special spell that is cast by members of those who slither in the dark and requires the sacrifice of another member of the group. It can only be left with the help of supernatural powers.
History
The history of Zahras is not explained in either game, though in Warriors: Three Hopes, it is implied that Epimenides has a connection to the place, as he gains the power to distort space around the player's units and to conjure a barrier in Zahras. Additionally, Zahras is destroyed after Epimenides is defeated and killed.
To send someone to Zahras, a member of those who slither in the dark must use a spell aptly named the "Forbidden Spell of Zahras"; the ritual necessitates the sacrifice of a fellow Agarthan.
Appearances
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
In Three Houses, Byleth is sent to Zahras after Solon sacrifices Kronya to cast a forbidden spell. While trapped in Zahras, Sothis confirms her true identity as a goddess to Byleth. She then tells Byleth that only her power can release Byleth from it, and grants her power to Byleth as she lacks a physical form of her own. With her power, Byleth uses the Sword of the Creator to cut themself free from Zahras. In the following battle, Solon claims he can send Byleth back to Zahras should he defeat them.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
In Warriors: Three Hopes, Zahras is visited if Byleth has been recruited into the player's army in any given route. If this condition is met, Shez will be controlled by Epimenides. In the following chapter, Solon attempts to use the chaos to defeat the player's army. After the chapter concludes, he attempts to retreat, but is killed by the controlled Shez. Through his sacrifice, Epimenides manages to trap Shez, Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude in Zahras. In Zahras, Epimenides gains a physical form, and attempts to finish all three nations' leaders off at once. With their help, Shez manages to defeat Epimenides, causing Zahras to collapse and freeing Shez, Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude.
Other appearances
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
As Byleth's reveal trailer is modelled after the cutscene where Byleth is trapped in Zahras in Three Houses, Zahras briefly appears in their reveal trailer. Unlike the original game, Byleth escapes Zahras by accepting the invitation to join the game's roster. Upon seeing Byleth escape, a bewildered Solon comments on this by claiming that joining Super Smash Bros. "consumes even the darkness itself".
Trivia
- In the American English subtitles for the "A Trap" cutscene in Three Houses Chapter 8, Zahras is misspelled as Zaharas.
