Shinon is a high-level sniper that starts in Ike's group in part 3. He has excellent base stats all around, having the second-highest base speed in the team and excellent skill with high crit rates, and decent strength to deal significant damage, if not outright one-round. His offense will stay excellent due to his excellent skill and speed growth, and an S rank in bows lets him use Silver Bows and the Silencer whenever he gets them. While his strength growth is mediocre, he starts very close to capping HP, skill, and speed, so it is very easy to increase strength and speed with BEXP. He has a high base level so it is easy to promote him early, which greatly benefits him due to giving him 3-range with standard bows (4-range with the long bow and double bow). He also has a decent defense growth, so he is not physically frail at all. While Shinon benefits a lot from ''Path of Radiance'' transfers, PoR Shinon has very low chances of capping almost any stats thanks to his bad base stats for his level, so it is not recommended. Due to his great combination of bases and growths, as well as the issues that plague the other archers in the game (Rolf's inferiority to him and forced competition with him, Astrid's horrible bases, and Leonardo's issues gaining experience), he is far and away the best candidate to wield the Double Bow in the Tower of Guidance. | Shinon is a high-level sniper that starts in Ike's group in part 3. Shinon is bowlocked so his only form of 1-range combat are crossbows (which lack in power outside of effective damage) and the Double Bow (only endgame), so he is primarily limited to attacking on player phase. Thus, while he is very strong early on in part 3, when later part 3 and part 4 are more rout-heavy, Shinon becomes very limited. He also is not mounted so his mobility is lacking. While his base strength is good, his strength growth is not high enough to keep him reliably strong, so he may sometimes struggle with long-term strength. | Shinon is bowlocked so his only form of 1-range combat are crossbows (which lack in power outside of effective damage) and the Double Bow (only endgame), so he is primarily limited to attacking on player phase. “ | ...Bah. I suppose you want some kind of congratulations now, right? Well, too bad. You're a snot-nosed whelp, and I'm still better than you. Don't ever forget that. | ” | — Shinon to Ike |

Shinon (Japanese: シノン Chinon) is a pre-promoted sniper who appears early on in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. He also appears in Part 3 in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. He does not believe Ike could lead the Greil Mercenaries after Greil's death, and left the group afterwards. He also dislikes the Laguz, calling them "sub-humans".

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Shinon is a prepromoted sniper that joins early, leaves the party after chapter 7, then rejoins in chapter 19. He has decent base stats for earlygame, especially skill and speed, so he will be an accurate fast and strong 2-range attacker. He will also have high crit rates thanks to the sniper bonus and high skill (note that snipers do not get a crit bonus on the Japanese version). He can also tank quite a few hits for earlygame. However, he is permanently limited to 2-range thanks to bow-lock, severely limiting his good earlygame combat.
Shinon has some of the best growths in the game. However, it is rare to take advantage of them because he is a prepromote so his experience gain is low, and he leaves the party for over a third of the game. When the player can recruit him again (which requires fielding Ike and Rolf), it is very hard for him to contribute through lategame despite his good growths, because of bowlock, no mount, and relatively bad lategame base stats; a trained Astrid or Rolf will far surpass Shinon at this point. To his credit, lategame Shinon starts with A rank bows so he can use every bow in the game besides the Double Bow, alleviating his bad lategame strength. He also can use a Longbow, which only he and Rolf can.
Shinon starts with the Provoke skill, and will have it permanently equipped through earlygame since the player does not have a chance to remove it in earlygame. Due to Shinon's good dodge and durability, he is a good earlygame meatshield, but again he cannot counter attack most enemies. Lategame, one can find situational use for Provoke to lure enemies into attacking at 2-range, but it is otherwise not useful. Deadeye has a high activation from Shinon's excellent skill, but it will not be useful because enemies targeted by Shinon will frequently be defeated by other units anyways. It is recommended to use your Occult scrolls on other units.
Shinon has a thunder affinity which gives avoid and defense. In lategame, he will frequently be attacking at a range so this is only useful if his partner wants the avoid/defense boost. Pairing him with Gatrie gives Gatrie a +3 defense boost with some needed accuracy/avoid thanks to his bad base skill and speed; however, the massive defense boost is often overkill for Gatrie, especially on easier difficulties. Janaff has another thunder affinity, so he can get a +3 defense +15 avoid boost, which helps his durability. However, he is a flier and will often not be near Shinon in many maps. Rolf is not a recommended partner since both units are foot-locked archers that want attack the most, yet neither gets an attack boost.

Shinon has a thunder affinity which gives a defense and avoid boost. As Shinon is an archer, he should be attacking at a range without many counterattacks, and not exposed to much enemy phase combat, so these boosts are not useful for him. Mia and Boyd benefit from Shinon's bonuses as footlocked infantry units, and in return, gives Shinon an attack boost with their fire affinities.
Personality and character

Shinon is rather stubborn and self-centered. He also makes rather sarcastic comments, and does not get along with Ike very well, constantly reminding him that he should change the name of the mercenaries. He shows dislike for laguz, and appears to have a drinking problem, as demonstrated in a base conversation in Path of Radiance, where he rants at Ike before throwing up.
He seems to have some respect for Rolf however, as Shinon was the one who taught Rolf to use a bow and arrow.

“ | Haven’t changed a bit, have you? You’re still a mouthy piece of work. Listen up! Daein’s a great place to work right now. The pay’s great, and strength at arms is the only thing that determines class standing. You want to join me? [...] Well then, only one thing to do. Out of the goodness of my heart, I’ll teach you how adults fight. And a far as payment goes... I’ll take your life. How’s that sound? | ” | — Shinon, when fighting Boyd in chapter 18 of Path of Radiance. |

“ | Ha! Why would I want to go to work for a bunch of stiff-necked bluestockings? I’m a commoner. No matter how good I am, I would never rise above a middling commission. It’s different in Daein. If you’re a skilled fighter, you can rise all the way to the top. [...] It’s everything. All right, enough with the pleasantries. You ready to go? | ” | — Shinon, when fighting Oscar in chapter 18 of Path of Radiance. |
---|
“ | Well, well, lookee here. The little boy plays soldier... How sweet. Your job’s always been just to use that big brain of yours. That’s why you spend your time hiding behind Ike’s apron. Isn’t it, Soren? [...] Hah! You’re still a snotty little whelp, aren’t you? Get ready to die, little man. | ” | — Shinon, when fighting Soren in chapter 18 of Path of Radiance. |

“ | Long time, no see, Captain. You know, we didn’t always see eye to eye, but... I never once minded taking orders from you. [...] Yes, I think that’s best. So in the end, we finally agree on something, eh? | ” | — Shinon, when fighting Titania in chapter 18 of Path of Radiance. |
---|
“ | Wipe that pathetic look off your face. Come on, ready your bow. On the battlefield, emotion ain’t worth spit. I taught you that, didn’t I? | ” | — Shinon, when fighting Rolf in chapter 18 of Path of Radiance. |
