Skill (Japanese: Skill), known as Dexterity (Dex) in Three Houses and Engage, is the stat that defines the unit's hit rate and also their critical hit rate. In Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Fire Emblem Awakening, Fire Emblem Fates, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and Fire Emblem Engage it is used to calculate the activation rate of many offensive skills such as Aether or Sol. Items such as the Secret Book increase the unit's skill permanently.

Hit rate

Skill is the primary unit stat to affect the unit's hit rate in battle.

The class bonus is +5 for Snipers only.
The Lunatic Mode bonus is +10 for all enemies on Lunatic Mode and Lunatic′ Mode and is unavailable to the player.
Awakening Hit + (Skill × 1.5) + (Luck / 2) + (Support/Dual bonus)

If any bonus is not relevant, the bonus in question is taken to be 0.
Fates Weapon hit: Hit + (Skill × 1.5) + (Luck / 2) + (Support/Dual bonus)

Staff hit: Hit + (Magic) + (Skill) + (Weapon level bonus)
The class bonus is +5 for Master Ninjas and Sorcerers, and +10 for Snipers and Lodestars.
If any bonus is not relevant, the bonus in question is taken to be 0.
Shadows of Valentia Physical accuracy: Hit + (Skill) + (Support bonus)
Magical accuracy: Hit + [(Skill + Luck) / 2] + (Support bonus)
If any bonus is not relevant, the bonus in question is taken to be 0.
Three Houses Physical accuracy: Hit + (Dexterity) + (Support bonus) + (Ability bonus) + (Equipment bonus) + (Battalion bonus) − (Bow range penalty)
Magical accuracy: Hit + [(Dexterity + Luck) / 2] + (Support bonus) + (Ability bonus) + (Equipment bonus) + (Battalion bonus) − (Bow range penalty)
If any bonus is not relevant, the bonus in question is taken to be 0.
Bow range penalty is only relevant for units attacking with bows from further than 2 spaces; in such a case, the user suffers a penalty of [20 × (distance from target − 2)]; on Maddening, the total penalty is increased by 10 points. Bow range penalty caps at 60 on Normal and Hard, and at 70 on Maddening.[1]
Engage Weapon accuracy: Hit + (Dexterity × 2) + (Luck / 2) + (Support bonus) + (Skill bonus)
Staff accuracy: Hit + (Magic) + (Dexterity)
Cannon blast accuracy: Hit + (Strength + Dexterity + Build) + (Luck / 2) + (Support bonus) + (Skill bonus − (Range penalty)
If any bonus is not relevant, the bonus in question is taken to be 0.
Range penalty only relevant for units attacking with cannon blasts from further than 3 spaces; in such a case, the user suffers a penalty of [10 × (distance from target − 3)].[2]

Critical hit rate

A unit's critical hit % chance is the chance the unit will land a critical hit. Skill is one of the factors involved in increasing a unit's critical hit rate, though the potency of skill's effect on crit varies by game.

If a unit or their weapon lacks the Critical skill, they are incapable of performing critical hits outside of combination bonuses or Wrath.
+20% critical hit rate when the combination bonus is in effect.

Thracia 776 (Skill) + (Weapon Crit) + (Support bonus)
With Wrath: 100%*
In battle, a unit's critical rate on follow-up attacks is affected by their follow-up critical multiplier.
Furthermore, the critical rate on the first attack is capped at 25. This does not affect the calculations for the critical rate of the follow-up attack.
Additional hits from Brave Weapons or Adept inherit their properties from the previous hit.

The Binding Blade (Skill / 2) + (Weapon Crit) + (Support bonus) + (Class bonus) The class bonus is +30 if the unit is a Swordmaster or Berserker.

When using a Light Brand at indirect range, the critical rate is locked at 0.
The Blazing Blade (Skill / 2) + (Weapon Crit) + (Support bonus) + (Class bonus) + (S-Level bonus) The class bonus is +15 if the unit is a Swordmaster or Berserker.
The S-Level bonus is +5 if the unit has an S level in their currently equipped weapon.

The Sacred Stones (Skill / 2) + (Weapon Crit) + (Support bonus) + (Class bonus) + (S-Level bonus) The class bonus is +15 if the unit is a Swordmaster, Berserker, Journeyman (3) or Recruit (3).
The S-Level bonus is +5 if the unit has an S level in their currently equipped weapon.
If any bonus is not relevant, the bonus in question is taken to be 0.
When using a Light Brand or Wind Sword at indirect range or a Runesword, the critical rate is locked at 0.
Path of Radiance (Skill / 2) + (Weapon Crit) + (Support bonus) + (Class bonus) + (Any bonuses from skills) The class bonus is +15 if the unit is a Swordmaster, Sniper, or Berserker. However, the class bonus does not exist in the Japanese version.
If any bonus is not relevant, the bonus in question is taken to be 0.
Radiant Dawn (Skill / 2) + (Weapon Crit) + (Bond support bonus) + (Any bonuses from skills) If any bonus is not relevant, the bonus in question is taken to be 0.

The class bonus is +5 if the unit is a Sniper, +10 if a Berserker.
If any bonus is not relevant, the bonus in question is taken to be 0.
Awakening (Skill / 2) + (Weapon Crit) + (Dual and Pair Up bonus) + (Skill bonus) If any bonus is not relevant, the bonus in question is taken to be 0.
Fates (Weapon Crit) + [(Skill - 4) / 2] + (Dual and Pair Up bonus) + (Skill bonus) + (Class bonus) The class bonus is +5 if the unit is a Master Ninja, Nine-Tails, Lodestar, or Pegasus Knight; +10 if a Sniper, Sorcerer, Spear Master, Swordmaster, or Witch; and +20 if a Berserker.
If any bonus is not relevant, the bonus in question is taken to be 0.
Shadows of Valentia (Weapon Crit) + [(Skill + Luck) / 2] + (Support bonus) If any bonus is not relevant, the bonus in question is taken to be 0.
Three Houses (Weapon Crit) + [(Dexterity + Luck) / 2] + (Ability bonus) + (Equipment bonus) + (Battalion bonus) If any bonus is not relevant, the bonus in question is taken to be 0.
Engage (Weapon Crit) + (Dexterity / 2) + (Skill bonus) If any bonus is not relevant, the bonus in question is taken to be 0.

Staff Accuracy

In Thracia 776, skill affects a staff user's hit rate. This applies for all staves, including healing and status staves.
