Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Devdan is a prepromoted halberdier that joins with average base stats everywhere. Due to his class, he is permanently limited by having no mount nor canto nor axes, but he joins during a time when many other units have not yet promoted, so he has higher mobility than other infantry for a few chapters. He has a respectable B rank in lances, so he has access to 1-2 range, many useful lances like the short spear and killer lance, and can use silver lances immediately with an arms scroll. His base stats are average across most stats. He has enough speed to double some enemies on easier difficulties but not many, and enough strength to do decent damage but not excellent. He has average skill and excellent luck, and due to serenity and his fire affinity, his hitrates will be reliable. Interestingly, he has a good resistance base for a physical unit, complemented by the Knight Ward if the player so chooses.
Devdan has excellent strength and decent defense growths, so he will consistently do decent damage and be reasonably durable with investment. He has a respectable skill and luck growth, ensuring his hitrates will continue to be reliable. His speed growth is low, but the Knight Ward increases it to 65%, and his base speed is salvageable enough to benefit from it. In the long run, Devdan can be a respectable lance-wielding combat unit, but does not particularly offer anything unique due to lack of mount and low speed.
Devdan has the Serenity skill which halves the effects of biorhythm. This arguably makes his hitrates more reliable as it decreases the variance of it, so it is recommended to keep it. He is a good candidate for an occult scroll, as he has enough space to learn Luna without sacrificing important skills. With his good skill, he also benefits from Adept and Guard, both skills that help his offense and durability, respectably.
Devdan has a fire affinity which gives an attack and accuracy boost, which he benefits from. Tormod and his fire affinity makes an excellent partner for Devdan, as both units will gain a respectable +3 attack and +15 accuracy boost. Nephenee appreciates Devdan's attack boost, and is the same class as Devdan, though her wind affinity does not help either unit too much. Largo is Devdan's weakest support option, as his wind affinity doesn't benefit Devdan much; Devdan's fire affinity is mostly overkill for Largo.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Danved is a halberdier that is part of the Crimean Royal Knights and is usable in chapters 2-3, part of 2-E, and 3-9, before joining Ike's group. For his available chapters, he has well-rounded base stats, with enough speed to double some enemy units, enough strength to deal useful damage, and above average durability, but is not particularly fantastic in any of these areas. He has an excellent S rank in lances, so he can use all available lances in part 2 and onward, including Killer Lance, Horseslayer, Brave Lance, Silver Lance, and Spears. As he is the main infantry unit in a group of mounts, he falls behind very easily through part 2. However, he can contribute in chapter 3-9 as he can climb ledges while all the other paladins on his team cannot. With significant rigging, he can cap strength, skill, and speed which helps Devdan's offense a lot; this is not realistic though.
When Danved joins Ike's group, he will be very underleveled and need significant investment to catch up. Immediate BEXPing is not recommended as luck is one of his highest growths, and he will infrequently gain other important stats, so he should equip Paragon and be fed combat kills. He has average growths in strength, speed, and defense, so he can be a reasonable lance user for enemy phase if invested. Ultimately, he requires significant combat investment to catch up, and has nothing in particular that makes him stand out compared to other lance-wielding units, so without favoritism, he is better off benched for the rest of the game.
For Part 4, as a grounded infantry unit, Danved works best on Ike's team, as he can take advantage of ledges in 4-4. He can also be put on Tibarn's team as chapter 4-5's swamp limits him less than chapter 4-3's desert. Micaiah's team has chapter 4-3's desert, crippling his movement, but chapter 4-P is filled with paladins, so Danved can be valuable with the Horseslayer. As Danved has no hammer access and middling strength, he will struggle against the common generals through part 4 and endgame. His poor resistance growth and speed cap also limit his uses in endgame. In general, even with investment, Danved will frequently have trouble contributing significantly through part 4 and endgame.
Danved has no skills. If he wants to catch up to Ike's group upon rejoining, he needs Geoffrey's or Astrid's Paragon in 3-9. As he has a above average speed base and growth, he can make use of Soren's Adept to improve his offense, or Haar's Cancel to improve his durability. Danved learns Impale which helps his offense, though his low skill growth hurts his activation rate. Take note that his biorhythm cycle is very extreme, and frequently either at best or worst, which significantly impacts his activation and hitrates, so it is recommended to keep an eye on his biorhythm if assigning him these skills.
Danved has a fire affinity which gives a valuable attack and accuracy boost. Marcia and Calill both have attack-boosting affinities and appreciate the extra attack, but Marcia is a flier and Calill a mage. Geoffrey also has the same fire affinity, but his availability is even more finnicky so he should not be a partner. If the player wants Danved to support someone in Ike's group, it is recommended to pair him with another unit with a fire or dark affinity and with similar movement, for +3 attack, such as Mia, Boyd, and Soren.

Trivia
- The piece of paper in Devdan's support with Largo shares its Japanese name with Danved.[3] Path of Radiance localized the name as "Nadved", Devdan spelled backwards.[4] This technically means that Path of Radiance localized Wuhalada as Nadved, though Radiant Dawn does not reflect this.
