Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Role

In Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn he reappears and takes the roll as a commander of the Begnion army. He joins Levail after hearing he had problems with some senators because he don't want to kill any laguz at the order from the senators. Zelgius helps him as good as he can. The only goal they're after is protect Begnion and find a way to make piece with the laguz kind but the senators refuses and want to kill all laguz kinds. They both are sure that both Sanaki, the empress of Begnion, and Lord Sephiran, Duke of Belsys and Prime Minister of Begnion, don't want a continent-wide war against the laguz. Sadly, they can't do anything against the senators because they're merely soldiers and they're forced take orders such as killing laguz and destroying the laguz rebellion. As the story progresses they both meet the members of Greil Mercenaries. To simply stop the war between the laguz rebellion and Begnion he defeats Skrimir, one of the rebellion leaders, but refuses to kill him. He gives the rebellion army and Greil Mercenaries the option to retreat and make a treaty of peace with Begnion. Zelgius gives a promise not to follow or attack them and give the Begnion army the order to retreat and don't harm or attack any member of the rebellion army. One of the senators disrespects the decission of Zelgius and sends a troup of soldiers to kill all retreating members of the rebellion army. He later talks with Sigrun and get the message that Sanaki got ill and Sephiran was suddenly arrested by the senators. Zelgius and Levail both realize that the senators are acting in the shadows to make Sananki and Sephiran disappear in order to wage a war against laguz. Both have no other options and they both are forced to follow the rebellion army and kill them. Later Valtome, Duke of Culbert, joins the army and he subducts Zelgius' rights to controll and order the army of Begnion. On the border line of Gallia and Crimea Ike's and Zelgius's army meet again. Queen Elincia refuses to fight against their own partners, the laguz. As an act of betrayal Valtome gives the order to kill the crimean and the rebellion army, Queen Elincia included. Zelgius realizes that the whole fight makes no sense at all and give the order to retreat and leave Valtome, Duke of Culbert, behind. He later states to take any responsibility for his actions. The crimean army strikes back and Valtome in full anger and aggression is forced to retreat and wants to chop Zelgius head of because he refused to obey him and left him behind. Before Zelgius get nearly executed by a soldier the Holy Guards of the Begnion army appears and saves Zelgius' life. Sanaki shows up and explains that she don't want a war against the laguz. Zelgius travels back to Sienne to find and free the Prime Minister of Begnion, Sephiran. For a brief moment Zelgius is not be seen again.

After the awakening of Ashera and Yune Ranulf explains Ike that Zelgius is in fact the Black Knight and they met him at the Riban river. At the same time Zelgius was on the east side of the river and disappeared. The Black Knight appeared on the west side of the river and joined the army of Daein. It is later revealed that Ranulfs conclusion was in fact in right. The Silver Army meets the Black Knight in the Tower of Guidance. Ike talks to the Black Knight and addresses him with "Zelgius". The Black Knight takes his helm of and Zelgius reveals himself. He challenges Ike to a sword fight, get defeated and dies. After his death the sword of the Black Knight, Alondite, is now available. Before his death a cutscene is showing up and it is revealed that Zelgius lived for long time alone, because he was disposed by his own family. He had the trademark of the Branded on his back, that's why he was disposed and despised. On his own decision he joined Sephiran because they don't want to be alone anymore and they became close friends.

*Note:: Zelgius is a non-playable character and will not appear on any map screen. If the player uses cheat codes, it is possible to view his stats and play with him. Zelgius is not like other Marshalls, because he can only wield swords and lances and has access to Ecplise and can perform it. Other Marshall units have Luna as a Mastery Skill instead. Interestingly Zelgius shares the same movement patterns with the Black Knight.
