This is the first battle you get to deploy your entire class (including Sylvain, if you're a female Black Eagle or Golden Deer who poached him). Your overarching objective for this battle and the next should be to bring as many students to level 5 as you can so that you can promote them into beginner classes. Never forget that Byleth's personal skill gives adjacent units 1.2x experience. Also, make sure to assign battalions to as many students as possible during battle preparations. There is never any downside to having a battalion with you unless your name is Felix or Catherine (whose personal skills boost their stats when they're on their own). Note that on Maddening, the amount of experience granted in auxiliary battles is severely neutered, so don't expect to be able to rely on them to grind. | This is the first battle you get to deploy your entire class (including Sylvain, if you're a female Black Eagle or Golden Deer who poached him). On turn 1, send your tankiest unit to pull in the northwestern group of 3. The three guys just to your right will automatically aggro, but the forest standing between you and them gives you a nice buffer to clean out the northwest before they get to you. Once the first six are down, the northern central group will engage. You shouldn't have too much trouble taking them out as long as you don't overextend yourself. The real fun begins when the boss and his four cronies aggro. You're going to need a couple of bulky units to set up shop in the narrow plains area between the two forests. Once that wave hits, just focus on taking them out as quickly and efficiently as possible. Byleth tends to score ORKOs with an Iron Sword, so make sure to make good use of them. | On turn 1, send your tankiest unit to pull in the northwestern group of 3. Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
Also note that if you are a Blue Lion and Felix has grown at least one point of Strength by the end of this battle, he can take his 11 Strength, 5 damage from his personal skill, 3 might from Steel Gauntlets, and 4 Strength from Annette's Perseverance and one-round most enemies in the story battle at the end of the chapter even on Maddening.
