“ | Whoa! So THIS is Daddy's world? Hmm, not SO different, I guess. There you are, Avel. Why'd you run off like that? We can't leave our Deeprealm! | ” | — Sophie |

Bold Approach (Japanese: 心通うとき When Passing Through the Heart) is the fifth paralogue chapter in Fire Emblem Fates. As a paralogue chapter, its events are not integral to the game's main storyline and can be done at the player's leisure. The chapter is unlocked after both clearing chapter 7 in either Birthright or Conquest or clearing chapter 14 in Revelation, and have Silas married.
In this chapter, Silas's daughter, Sophie, has been carried out of her Deeprealm by her horse, Avel, and straight into a bandit attack, choosing to attempt to fight off the bandits. It is up to Corrin and his/her army to fend off these bandits and protect Sophie at all costs.

Bold Approach/Script
We cut to one of the Deeprealms, where a girl named Sophie is trying to ride her horse, Avel, gently; right as Sophie notes the ride is going well, Avel starts behaving aggressively and eventually throws Sophie off of him. Sophie states that her father said Avel would be the ideal horse for her, but then starts to note that he bucks her off and gallops away. When Sophie notices that Avel is heading for the portal to the game's main realm, Sophie tries to call Avel back and eventually has to pursue him; the chase eventually crosses through the portal.
We cut to an area of Nohr roughly west-northwest of the Dragon's Gate, where Sophie notes that she is now in her father's world and that it doesn't seem much different; Sophie finds Avel and asks him why he ran off the way he did, stating that they can't leave their Deeprealm, then mounts him. Sophie tells Avel that they should ride back before anyone finds out or else she'll get the scolding of her life, also noting that her father stated that it's very dangerous in this world; at this point, a ruffian in the area tells a boy that he's not getting away without paying a toll, and he means all of his money, ordering the boy to either hand over the money or his hands, to which the boy cries out for help. The leader of the ruffians, Nichol, steps in and tells the boy that if he sings like he did again, he will let his comrade pluck out his tongue; Nichol then states that his band of malevolent brothers is in dire need of amusement and asks the boy to continue his screaming. Sophie catches wind of what's going on and notes that the situation is very dangerous, then states she's coming to the rescue even if she gets in trouble with her father; she then prepares Avel to ride to the situation, but Avel ends up running in the wrong direction.
We now cut to Sophie's fahter, Silas, arriving in the area of a ruined village, noting that he's arrived in an area said to be under attack but they're too late as the marauders have already torn the place apart; he then notices a band of villagers rushing the enemies and notes that a massacre is sure to happen, stating that he and the rest of Corrin's army must save whomever they can and bring the villains to justice. Battle preparations take place at this point; the battle begins once preparations are finished.
Should Silas speak with Sophie, Sophie will ask Silas what he's doing in the area, to which Silas asks Sophie why she left her Deeprealm; Sophie begins thinking and concludes she can't tell Silas the truth as she'd be so embarrassed, to which Silas notices Sophie mumbling. Sophie states that she's in the area because she heard the shouts of villagers coming through the portal, so she leapt astride Avel, snapped the reins, and rode to the rescue; back to her thinking, she tells Avel to settle down until Silas leaves. Silas tells Sophie that she has made him proud, not knowing she had it in her, and it's high time they rode into battle as a pair of father-daughter cavaliers; Sophie states that she and Avel will do their best and states it's time to save those villagers. The player may now control Sophie at this point.
Once the battle ends, Sophie congratulates Avel for following her every direction in that battle, then starts to ask why he did so in this area and not back in her Deeprealm; Silas deduces that Avel is more unruly than Sophie's led him to believe, stating he's not surprised that Avel behaved in this situation as Sophie was the difference, not Avel--Sophie displayed newfound confidence and her directions were assured. Silas states that the secret to being a good cavalier is living up to their horse's expectations; Sophie asks if that's all she needed to do this whole time, to which Silas confirms but states it's no easy feat especially since he gave her Avel to ride. Silas then explains why he gave Avel to Sophie, to which Sophie states she's not quite where she needs to be; Silas states that Sophie is ready to leave the Deeprealms and travel with the army, believing Sophie to be ready for this experience and stating she'll learn to handle Avel even faster this way. As Sophie accepts these facts, Avel starts to run off again back toward the Deeprealm, to which Sophie tries to rein him in; Silas notes that his work is cut out for him, and Sophie will see how he rides his horse now that they'll be travelling together. As Silas sees a sight that he thinks is Sophie finally taking control, he then notices Avel biting Sophie's face; Sophie cries out to Avel to stop chewing up her hair, that it took forever for it to grow back the last time, after which Silas notes the situation and calls out to Avel to bring her back.

Note: The returning characters list only those recruited by the time this chapter can first be unlocked (after completing chapter 7 in Birthright and Conquest, or after completing chapter 14 in Revelation). Felicia is only a returning character if Corrin is male, while Jakob is only a returning character if Corrin is female. As a paralogue chapter, there is no set timeframe in which the chapter must be taken on; thus, it is possible to have recruited more characters than the above by the point the chapter is started.
