“ | Ayaaaah! This is where Father lives? Around m-m-monsters like this?! If only he were here! No. I have to fight my own battles. Starting now. | ” | — Hisame |

A Long Grudge (Japanese: 愛憎半ば Partway Between Love and Hate) is the eleventh paralogue chapter in Fire Emblem Fates. As a paralogue chapter, its events are not integral to the game's main storyline and can be done at the player's leisure. The chapter is unlocked after both clearing chapter 9 in Birthright or clearing chapter 10 in Revelation, and have Hinata married.
In this chapter, Hinata visits his son, Hisame, in his Deeprealm, only to find their relationship strained. In the aftermath, Hisame flees the Deeprealm only to run headfirst into a large number of Faceless.

A Long Grudge/Script
We cut to one of the Deeprealms, where Hinata calls out to his son, Hisame, then starts noting the peace in the area before calling out Hisame again; Hisame appears and tells Hinata not to yell, after which Hinata notices a change in Hisame's actions, to which Hisame notes this is due to him being older. During the ensuing conversation, it becomes apparent that Hinata and Hisame's relationship has become strained, and after Hinata makes some comments implying he forgot how time works in the Deeprealms, Hisame runs away from the scene; Hinata notices exactly which direction Hisame ran off in and, upon figuring out it's back toward his world, gives chase.
We cut to a wasteland in central Nohr, where Hisame appears and notes he didn't mean to run into Hinata's world; a Faceless appears on the scene and scares Hisame, causing him to think Hinata's world is full of monsters and wishes Hinata were in the area before declaring he needs to fight his own battles starting right then and there. Battle preparations take place at this point; the battle begins once preparations are complete.
Should Hinata speak with Hisame during the battle, Hinata asks Hisame if he's hurt, to which Hisame asks him if he came to rescue him despite everything that was said back in the Deeprealm; Hinata then tells Hisame not to worry, he's arrived a little late but the monsters don't stand a chance against him. Hinata attempts to talk Hisame into hiding out for safety, but when Hisame states that he wants to fight, Hinata reluctantly agrees to allow Hisame to join the fight. Once the conversation ends, the player can now control Hisame at this point.
Once the battle ends, Hisame thanks Hinata for his help and attempts to return to the Deeprealm, deducing that Hinata stuck him there because he couldn't make it in Hinata's world; at this point, Hinata manages to talk Hisame into staying in his world and even apologizes for not figuring out the time differences earlier. Once this happens, Hisame notes that Hinata really hasn't changed; Hinata, on the other hand, notices that Hisame is apparently now taller than him.
Summary
Hisame, who has complicated feelings over his mostly absent father, Hinata, flees after saying how he feels. But he runs directly into a large group of enemies.

Note: The returning characters list only those recruited by the time this chapter can first be unlocked (after completing chapter 9 in Birthright or after completing chapter 10 in Revelation). Felicia is only a returning character if Corrin is male, while Jakob is only a returning character if Corrin is female. As a paralogue chapter, there is no set timeframe in which the chapter must be taken on; thus, it is possible to have recruited more characters than the above by the point the chapter is started.

Trivia
- This chapter is the only one in the Hoshidan group of child paralogues (paralogues 7-14, the ones not available in Conquest) whose boss has not stopped visibly scaling by the time the chapter 22 position is reached and continues to scale afterward; this is due to the boss Faceless having the same level as its underlings (initially 10; reaches 28 by chapter 22, 30 by chapter 23, all the way to 38 by the final position of chapter 27), and none have reached the level cap (in this case 40) at this point.
