The Shadow Sword (Japanese: 暗黒の剣 Darkness Sword) is a unique sword present in Fire Emblem Gaiden, its remake, Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, as well as Fire Emblem: Thracia 776.
In Gaiden, it functions identically to the Devil Sword of other games, having a chance to backfire and inflict damage upon its wielder based upon the wielder's Luck. This effect only applies to player units, enemy units have no chance to be damaged by the backfire damage. In Gaiden Dread Fighters are also immune to the backfire chance, be they enemy or ally.[1]
In Thracia 776, it is a cursed blade forced upon Mareeta by Raydrik and Veld, forcing her to fight against her adoptive mother Eyvel; later, it is purified by Saias, freeing Mareeta and transforming the blade into Mareeta's Sword.
