— Glade to Finn in Chapter 13: The Walled City

Glade (Japanese: グレイド Glade) is a playable duke knight in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. He is an old friend of Finn[1] and the husband of Selphina.

Biography

This section has been marked as a stub. Please help improve the page by adding information.

Glade is initially mentioned by Selphina in Chapter 9: The Banner of Njörun; she states that he left to assist in the defense of Tarrah. Glade has been reporting to his allies by letter and Dryas makes plans to assist him and defend Tarrah before the Empire launches its full scale attack.[2]

Glade appears along with several unnamed accompanying knights fighting in the defense of Tarrah in Chapter 13. Also present are Deen and Eda; though they opt to stay under cover due to the presence of ballistae, leaving Glade and his knights as the city's primary defense.

During the battle it is possible for Leif, Finn and Selphina to meet up with and converse with Glade. Glade is ecstatic to see that prince Leif had survived up to that point and tells Finn to have Leif retreat into the city.

After meeting with Leif's forces at Tarrah Glade fights in Leif's army for the rest of the conflict in Thracia. Like many other characters appearing only in Thracia 776 his exact activities after Leif joins with Seliph's forces during Genealogy of the Holy War are unknown outside of the fact that he assists with the reconstruction of Leonster.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Glade joins about halfway through the game. At base level, he is a solid combat performer. His base stats are alright, and he has an excellent A-rank in lances outdoors. This lets him use strong lances, like the Silver Lance, and one-round enemies whom he doubles. His 11 speed may not look amazing, but enemies in Thracia are slow, so he is still likely to double many of them with his usable speed growth. If the player has trained other mounted combat units, they will most likely be superior to Glade. However, that does not make Glade any worse at contributing when he joins.

Glade's main advantage is his authority star. It grants all player units +3% to hit and avoid regardless of their positions on the map. While it seems like a minor effect, and its influence is hard to see, it adds reliability and makes combat safer. It also lets Glade contribute positively without ever entering combat or even moving. The last advantage of authority stars is that they negate enemy authority stars. Each authority star on the player's side is one fewer star on the enemy's side. Thracia's mid-to-lategame features many enemy authority stars, and Glade helps negate them.

On indoor maps, Glade is a much worse unit. He receives significant stat and movement penalties from dismounting. The movement penalty is especially painful because it negates Glade's mobility advantage. Outside of that, a dismounted Glade can only use E-rank swords. This is a major problem because he can no longer take advantage of his excellent A-rank in lances. With these penalties, Glade suffers on indoor maps. While he may still be worth deploying for the authority star alone, he will no longer fight well.

Overall, Glade is a decent combat and support unit rolled into one. On outdoor maps especially, he is mobile and can fight well thanks to his A-rank in lances and solid base stats. On indoor maps, however, he turns into a mediocre or even poor combatant, since he can only use E-rank swords. His authority star is his greatest claim to fame, giving all player units +3% to hit and avoid while he is on the map. While the effect of authority stars is invisible, they are useful to have.

Personality

Glade is patriotic and will lay down his life to defend Leonster and its prince Leif; Leonster lingers in his last words if he is defeated in battle. Glade feels much emotional turmoil over the loss of the knights under his command and tutelage in the fight against the Empire.[3]

Glade appears to have been friends with Finn ten years before the events of chapter 13; back from before Prince Leif went into hiding. Glade and Finn used to drink together.[1]

Endings

Glade, Knight of Integrity
Glade was appointed Commander of the New Kingdom of Thracia's military—the highest rank in the army. He was entrusted with overseeing the military's reorganization as it swelled in number with North and South united. Initially too large to be sustainable, the army's excess troops were divided into several new branches, with only an elite few soldiers permitted to stay in the main force. The restructuring of the military was successful, and his organizational acumen saved Thracia from a financial crisis.

Glade: Finn! It feels like a lifetime since last we met... How long has it been?
Finn: Ten years. The last time we stood together was at the battle for Ulster...
Glade: That's right... And all this time, you've been caring for Prince Leif? You've done well, old friend. You have my deepest thanks, truly.
Finn: The feeling is mutual, Sir Glade. After all, you've been no slouch, yourself—you have helped Duke Dryas raise the next generation of the Lanzenritter, and kept their name alive. Were it not for their aid, I fear Lord Leif wouldn't have been able to come this far.
Glade: I merely kept my word, nothing more. When last we were together, we made a pact: I to protect the banner of House Leonster, and you to protect Prince Leif. We swore to defend them both with our lives.
Finn: Well, looking around us, I'd say we've finally achieved what we vowed so long ago to do. Our wards stand tall and ready to fight again. Ah, but there's no rest for us knights, is there? Yet another battle unfolds before us. We cannot lose focus, even for but a moment.
