Marty (Japanese: マーティ Marty) is a member of Dagdar's bandit crew based in Thracia's Mount Violdrake, and an ally of the Fiana Freeblades.
Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
Role
Marty arrived in Fiana with Dagdar and Tanya during Leif and Eyvel's fight to free it from the Munster army, and quickly joined with the Freeblades to drive the occupation out. He accompanied Leif until his capture by Raydrik at Fort Kelbeth, at which point he retreated with Dagdar to Mount Violdrake.
When Gomez staged a mutiny against Dagdar, Marty initially sided with Gomez's faction out of fear for his own safety, but was persuaded to rejoin Dagdar and Leif by Osian and Halvan.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Marty is a Brigand who is available for most of the game apart from the Munster escape chapters. He also has okay to great growths in physical bulk as well. Sadly, these are about his only greatest advantages. He has horrendous bases and growths in skill and speed, with his bases in the same two stats being a flat zero. This means that he gets frequently doubled by enemies and struggles to land accurate hits against targets. His high constitution growth is also a double-edged sword; on one hand, this means he will never be weighed down by his weapons, many enemies can't capture him (all enemies, if he hits the cap of 20), and can capture/rescue almost anyone in the game. On the other hand, he will be difficult, or outright impossible for his teammates to rescue themselves. His aforementioned low skill and speed means he won't do well capturing enemies himself either. To make matters worse for him, he shares his availability (outside of one chapter) with his boss Dagdar, who is not only a prepromoted Warrior, but has tolerable base stats despite having comparatively worse growths than Marty.
Despite these unfortunate shortcomings in Marty's capabilities in the field, he's not completely hopeless. Marty's combat, while it will never be excellent, is salvageable: Crusader Scrolls can mitigate his low growths; the Ced and Od scroll are particularly worthwhile for him to use, as they give a significant boost to his otherwise lacking speed and skill growth, respectively. Marty's base strength is actually high, so he can use the Brave Axe well, patching up his doubling issues. The Brave Axe is D-rank in Thracia, allowing Marty to use it with no investment. Marty's promotion bonus is also among the best in the game. Promoting to Warrior grants him a large skill and speed increase. Since these are Marty's two lowest stats, he is in desperate need of increasing them. His promotion also gives him access to bows, granting him easy access to 2-range combat and gives a niche against enemy fliers, especially since ranged axes in Thracia (even the low rank Hand Axe) are difficult to acquire or expensive to purchase.
Marty's greatest contribution relates to his high constitution. Marty is good at taking captured units away from units who captured them. This is especially useful while capturing in the early chapters. Later on, there are other units who can serve this purpose, but early on, Marty can get the job done well.
Personality and character
Marty is timid and easily cowed into subservience, and does not appear to particularly enjoy battle. When he was bullied into Gomez's service, he was afraid of encountering his former allies on the battlefield and tried his best to hide his presence from them.[1] He was indecisive when pressured by both sides to join with them, unsure which to fear more, eventually giving in and rejoining Osian solely because of his loud shouting.[2]

Marty - Dagdar's Beloved Man
Returning to Mount Violdrake, Marty reunited with his old friends, and set about restoring the barren land. While somewhat dim-witted, his absentmindedness gave way to a sort of rugged honesty and innocence. His straightforward and uncomplicated nature won him many friends, and he was especially beloved among children.
