Analysis
analysis
As a unit
Midir joins halfway through the Prologue at level 2 and is the first bow user in Sigurd's army. He has no Holy Blood, his base stats are merely average and his growths are the worst among the first generations male characters, with a very low luck growth. However, his growths are well balanced overall, with a decent speed growth and average growths in strength, skill and defense. Being bow-locked leaves him defenseless at close range and with poor enemy phase combat, but luckily, he has a mount, which grants him both high movement and Canto, allowing him to avoid attacks from enemies with a defensive retreat. He also has a good set of offensive skills in both Follow-Up and Accost, which give him reliable offense. He can wield Jamke's Killer Bow, which has the might and weight of the Silver Sword and better hit and the ability to critical. While Jamke can also wield it, Midir's mount and Canto means that he can make more use of it. Later, if he or Jamke marry Edain, he can wield the Brave Bow. While his stats are mediocre, they are still enough for him to contribute when he is wielding bows.

As a father
Midir is an excellent candidate for Edain's husband, as he is generally considered Lester's best father. He is one of few units—the other two being Jamke and a promoted Arden—who can pass bows down for Lester to use, including the Killer Bow and the Brave Bow. This is very important as Lester will otherwise be stuck with an Iron Bow in chapter 6 and a Steel Bow until mid-chapter 8. Midir's edge over Jamke is Follow-Up; while both pass down Accost, only Midir passes down Follow-Up, which gives Lester the ability to double any enemy if he has an attack speed advantage. Jamke only passes Adept, which only gives a chance-based ability to attack again and does not work with the Brave Bow, so Midir makes the best father for Lester overall. The downside to this pairing is that it does not help Lana much, and it delays access to Rescue, which can only be obtained in the first generation—and thus inherited in the second—if Claud or Azelle marries Edain; Rescue will be in the armory in Chapter 10 if it is not inherited, but it can be inherited at least two chapters earlier.

Midir is a poor father for most other children, as no child but Lester can inherit bows, and other children have better fathers to receive Follow-Up from. Midir can pass Follow-Up to Tailtiu's or Lachesis's children, but they are better suited by other fathers (such as Azelle or Beowolf respectively) who can pass better stats or weapons; he can also pass Follow-Up to Brigid's children but Febail has it from his class, and Patty gains it upon promotion. Midir offers practically nothing as a husband for Ayra, Silvia, or Erinys, whose children cannot use bows and already have Follow-Up or have little use for it.

— Midir, to Edain

Midir (Japanese: ミデェール Midayle) was a knight in the service of Grannvale's House Yngvi. He led the defense of Yngvi and its Lady Edain in the Verdane invasion in Grann 757, and while his efforts failed, he subsequently fought in Sigurd's army in its invasion of Verdane to rescue Edain and beyond until his presumed death in the Battle of Belhalla.

Biography

Determined to protect Edain to the end even in the face of Verdane's overwhelming force, Midir was defeated and severely wounded by Prince Munnir of Verdane, leaving Yngvi Castle open to the enemy and Edain to be abducted by Munnir. When Sigurd recaptured Yngvi, he found Midir, who despite his injuries was determined to assist Sigurd in rescuing Edain. Midir subsequently accompanied Sigurd's army on his quest to save Edain in Verdane; following her successful rescue, Midir followed Sigurd on the campaign in Agustria, in exile in Silesse, and presumably in being executed by the mages of Velthomer in the Battle of Belhalla.

Personality

Midir was devoted to Edain and determined to protect her even to the end,[1] if mostly because of an unrequited romantic interest he had long held in her.[2] Even after Edain's rescue, he chose to be indebted to Sigurd for his role in rescuing Edain and thus swore to continue serving him beyond Verdane.[3] It is possible, however, that his interest was born at least initially on a superficial level, as upon meeting Edain's sister Brigid for the first time he loudly voiced his interest in her appearance as being more beautiful than that of Edain.[4]
