“ | The Isaacian citizens have made the rebel army out to be some kind of liberation army. They're treating them like heroes! But I think it's time to teach them a little lesson. | ” | — Danan |

(Japanese: ダナン Danan) was the Duke of Grannvale's House Dozel from Grann 760, the successor of his late father Langobalt, and the appointed King of Isaach following its conquest by Grannvale. Remaining loyal to his father and Grannvale unlike his younger half-brother Lex, Danan ruled as a tyrant over Isaach from the southern Rivough Castle until his downfall at the hands of Seliph in Grann 777.
Biography
In the aftermath of the war against Isaach in Grann 760, Danan was sent to Isaach with the Grau Ritter to put down insurrections against the new Grannvale authority; he was supposed to provide his father Langobalt with reinforcements in fighting Sigurd's army at Lubeck Castle, but was delayed and unable to get there in time, resulting in Langobalt's death.[1] Following this, Danan succeeded him as Duke of Dozel and was appointed the King of Grannvale-occupied Isaach. Governing from Rivough Castle in the south, under his regime the Isaach natives were reduced to slave status; however, owing to the reluctance of his sons and governing assistants Johan and Johalva to participate in the Empire's more heinous activities, Isaach was one of the better-off nations during the days of the Grannvale Empire.
Seventeen years later in Grann 777, upon learning that the long-hunted Isaach rebellion led by Prince Shanan was stationed in the remote village of Tirnanog, Danan ordered an assault on the town, prompting Seliph to emerge from hiding and lead his limited forces in repelling the Dozel assault. Seliph's band eventually arrived at Rivough, where he confronted and slew Danan, freeing Isaach from Grannvale control.

Personality and character
Not unlike his father, Danan was ill-tempered and merciless to all in opposition to him; even as he subjected the people of Isaach to inhumane treatment, he lived a life of excess at Rivough.[2] He had a preoccupation with power and prestige, with his primary fear of the existence of Shanan's rebel army being that his authority was being undermined and that Arvis would not take kindly to the news.[3] According to Johalva, Danan was extremely weak-willed when confronted by Loptyrian agents, letting them have free reign over Isaach to their tastes and putting up absolutely no resistance or objection.[4]

References
- ↑ "Damn it. Danan still hasn't shown up with his reinforcements. The axe knights of the Grau Ritter are all elite warriors. With that much power on his side, Danan has no excuse for taking so long to quell some little uprising in Isaach." — Langobalt, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
- ↑ "King Danan of Isaach was a merciless ruler, taking much after his father, Duke Langobalt. He dropped the social standing of the Isaachian people to that of slaves, while he himself indulged in the pleasures of the royal palace at Rivough." — Opening narration of Chapter 6, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
- ↑ "Prince Shanan's rebel army gets larger each year and they're meddling with my affairs! Don't you know they're harbouring Sigurd the Traitor's son? With them on the loose my position as King of Isaach is completely being undermined! You tell me how to explain this to His Majesty the Emperor!" — Danan, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
- ↑ "And I've had about all I can handle of the Loptyrians. People say they've been sacrificing children right here in Isaach. My father just lets them walk all over him. I've had it with them!" — Johalva, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
