===Analysis=== | |||
analysis | |||
Naoise is available for the entirety of the first generation. As his stats show, Naoise is a more Strength/Defense-focused cavalier than his comrade Alec. Like all mounted units in Genealogy of the Holy War, Naoise comes with a superior version of the Canto skill that allows him to finish moving after attacking. However, Naoise notably lacks the all-important Follow-Up skill. Without that skill, no unit in Genealogy of the Holy War can double attack, even if they are faster than the enemy. Instead, Naoise has Accost, which he will have a hard time activating due to his low speed. He also has Critical. The downside of having these two skills instead of Follow-Up is that they are unreliable, whereas Follow-Up is reliable. This limits Naoise's combat potential and prevents him from defeating enemies in one round of combat. As a result, Naoise can seem underwhelming. However, since mounted units dominate Genealogy of the Holy War and Naoise is among them, he can still contribute here and there.
Naoise requires adequate equipment to surpass mediocrity. The Follow-Up Ring is a valuable item for Naoise because it gives him the titular skill, allowing him to double attack. While there is intense competition for it, Naoise is one of few mounted candidates for the item. He also makes good use of lances, which have better might than swords and can still double most generation 1 enemies. Additionally, he can effectively wield the Light Brand after promotion with Paladin's +5 magic bonus and the low resistance of enemies, though Alec can also do so. Therefore, he will get to make use of it more often than unmounted units. A useful weapon for Naoise is the Brave Sword, although it is possibly even more competitive than the Follow-Up Ring. Every sword user with a B rank in swords can excel at combat with this weapon because it is arguably the best sword in the game, excluding holy weapons. It has good stats, strikes twice even if its user cannot double the enemy, and four times if they can. With the Brave Sword and the Follow-Up Ring, Naoise can become a very capable combat unit, especially combined with his existing skills, Accost and Critical. However, this is still a significant investment, and without it, Naoise's contributions will be average.
As a father, Naoise is useful to children who do not need Pursuit but could benefit from Accost and Critical. He is an acceptable option for Ayra as he can pass down a fair bit of Strength, Accost, and B-rank swords to Scáthach. With Erinys, Fee and Ced benefit from Critical and Accost (giving both three multi-attack skills), and Fee benefits from Naoise's high strength. Ced's magic growth will suffer, but Ced can usually survive on his base magic alone as a pre-promoted unit.
Overall, Naoise is a passable unit in the first generation and can fill in as a substitute father in specific scenarios.

Naoise (Japanese: ノイッシュ Noish) was a knight in the service of House Chalphy in Grannvale, and the friend and rival of fellow Chalphy knight Alec. When the Grannvale army went to war with Isaach, Naoise was one of its few knights left behind, remaining in Chalphy with Sigurd.
Biography
During the war between Grannvale and Isaach in the year 757, Naoise was stationed in Chalphy when he and his fellow soldiers received word of the Verdane attack on Yngvi Castle. When his lord Sigurd tried to instruct his soldiers to remain at Chalphy while he examined the situation, Naoise insisted on accompanying Sigurd into battle as his duty as a knight. Naoise subsequently accompanied Sigurd's army on the campaigns in Verdane and Agustria, in exile in Silesse, and presumably in being executed by the mages of Velthomer in the Battle of Belhalla.

Personality
In contrast to Alec's wilder ways, Naoise was calm and thoughtful, taking the time to consider a situation and any requirements which may require covering in the course of a battle.[1] He took his oaths as a knight seriously, insisting on fighting alongside and protecting Sigurd instead of waiting at Chalphy.[2]
