Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu (ファイアーエムブレム 聖戦の系譜, Faiaa Emuburemu Seisen no Keifu, literally Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War) is the fourth game installment in the Fire Emblem series, and the second on the Super Famicom. This game is the first of the series that takes place in a place with no connections to the previous games, the continent of Jugdral.

Seisen no Keifu is split up into two halves, separated by the timespan of a generation. In the first generation, Lord Siglud sets to fight off an invasion of the Kingdom of Verdane, but is rapidly involved in the events leading to the creation of the Grandbell Empire - the same tyranny fought by his son, Celice, in the second generation.

Characters

Main article: List of characters in Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu.

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War features one of the shortest but most complex list of playable characters in the series. This is due to the female characters from the first generation (excepting Diadora and Ethlin) being able to fall in love with men from Siglud's army and bear two children, who then will conform Celice's army in the second generation. As long as they fall in love and remain alive until the end of Siglud's story, their children will be available in the second half; otherwise, they will be replaced with other characters.

This is one of the main factors in Seisen no Keifu's replayability; since the women can be paired with almost any men, who heavily influence the children, units in the second generation are quite variable. Children's growth rates depend on who their parents are, and they inherit the inventory and holy blood as well. On the other side, the substitute characters have set stats and no holy blood bonuses (except for Amid and Linda, who have minor Tordo blood.), and are thus viewed as 'inferior' to their counterparts.

The following table shows the mothers, the children and the replacement characters:

Although the player has access to fewer classes than in other games, they cover the whole weapon and almost all magic spectrum; the only enemy-exclusive form of attack is Dark magic.
