Caesar
|
From a Roman cognomen which possibly meant "hairy", from Latin caesaries "hair".[1] There are many alternate explanations that have been given, however. The most famous bearer of the name Caesar was the Roman emperor Gaius Julius Caesar of the family Julii Caesares, and due to him and his adopted son Octavian (known as Augustus Caesar, or "the majestic Caesar") who succeeded him, Caesar came to be a title referring to the Roman emperor, and also spread into other languages to be a generic term for emperor (such as the German word Kaiser).
