The Chalice of Beginnings (Japanese: 始原の宝杯 Chalice of beginnings) is an object that debuted in the Fire Emblem: Three Houses expansion Cindered Shadows. It is a chalice created by the goddess, and can supposedly resurrect the dead through a ritual called the Rite of Rising. The chalice plays an important role in the story of Cindered Shadows, being sought after by Aelfric in order to revive Sitri, Byleth's deceased mother.
After completing Cindered Shadows, the Chalice of Beginnings becomes available to use as a piece of equipment, negating any bonus damage against the wielder, while also granting them the ability to counter enemy attacks at any range.
History
The Chalice of Beginnings was created for use during the Rite of Rising which was conducted after Garreg Mach Monastery was completed. The ritual consisted of the Four Apostles pouring their nlood into the chalice to revive Sothis. However, the ritual failed, and an Umbral Beast was created instead. After the ritual's failure, the Four Apostles left the monastery, and the Chalice was sealed beneath the monastery, only to be opened through the combined power of the four Apostles' crests. Almost 1,000 years later, Aelfric found out about the chalice, and decided to use it in an attempt to bring Sitri back to life. Through a scheme, he got the Ashen Wolves-who bear the crests of the Four Apostles-to break the seal on the chalice, and used their blood to perform the ritual. During the ritual, he transformed into an Umbral Beast himself, and was slain during the battle. It is left unclear what happened to the Chalice of Beginnings after the battle.
