Counterattack (Japanese: 応撃 Response attack) is an ability which was introduced in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. As its name suggests, the ability allows units to counterattack foes, even if the user's range would not normally allow them to do so. It is most commonly seen equipped by the Death Knight and many other lategame bosses who lack natural means of ranged combat, in order to prevent the player from landing a free attack on them without risk of retaliation.

Although the skill can only be learned by one playable unit, it can also be bestowed on units temporarily by use of the Retribution gambit. The skill can also be granted as a passive ability for a unit equipped with the Chalice of Beginnings.

In Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, the skill can only be obtained by Rhea and Jeritza by fully mastering their respective personal classes, or by equipping the Chalice of Beginnings, and deals all non-lethal damage its user takes back to the attacker.

• If the user is equipped with a sword, axe, lance, or gauntlets when the Counterattack skill is activated, the skill manifests as a bolt of lightning, visually resembling the black magic spell Thunder.
