“ | Do you remember how my daughter Aida died protecting you from Manfroy? | ” | — Coen, to Saias |
---|
(Japanese: アイーダ Aida) was an esteemed general of the Velthomer army, leader of the Rot Ritter, and a confidante to Duke Arvis. She was the daughter of Coen, another Velthomer general, and with Arvis was the mother of the renowned tactician Saias.
Biography
Around Grann 747-749[1], Aida was involved in a relationship with Arvis; nothing is known about this relationship, except that it yielded an illegitimate son, Saias, who alone of Arvis's three children inherited his major Fala Holy Blood. This relationship presumably ended long before Grann 757, but the two remained on good terms with Aida continuing to serve as a prominent general.
In Grann 761, Aida led the Velthomer army at Velthomer Castle itself in the defense of Grannvale, in preparation for the "traitorous" Sigurd's return to the country, stationing Meteor-wielding mages atop cliffs around the Velthomer and western Yied Desert area. Deployed with her was Duke Reptor of Freege and his army, who was suspicious of Arvis's intent but complied nonetheless. As soon as Sigurd's army approached Velthomer, Aida issued the command for all Velthomer forces to turn on Reptor and attack his army, in accordance with Arvis's plan; between Aida's mages and Sigurd's army, Reptor's group was overwhelmed and defeated. Once Reptor was defeated, Aida directed Sigurd to Belhalla to receive a ceremonial welcome from Arvis and the Rot Ritter, an event which turned into the Battle of Belhalla.
At some point in the following years, Aida was killed by Manfroy of the Loptyrians in a bid to protect Saias from them; in response, Coen sent Saias to an isolated monastery in which to hide and learn, in preparation for the day where his abilities would grant him enough public esteem to afford him protection.[2]
Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
Role
Aida initially emerges as the final boss of Chapter 5, the leader of the Velthomer army and defending Velthomer Castle along with Reptor and his army; however, once any member of Sigurd's army crosses a certain point of the cliff east of Velthomer Castle, Aida and her group of six Fire Mages will become neutral units and begin attacking Reptor's army. Instead of seizing Velthomer, Sigurd must talk to Aida in order to end the chapter.

After that, I hid you in an isolated church and withstood Manfroy's relentless threats. And years later... Your ability was recognized, and you became the court bishop of Velthomer. I was happy that Manfroy wouldn't be able to touch you in your status. However, with Lord Julius's awakening, the Loptyr Church's power is beginning to surpass that of the Empire's. Saias...I know you're aware of the Brand of Fala that has appeared on your body. Neither Lord Julius nor Lady Julia has it... and that's what Manfroy is afraid of. Saias, you must live. You are a holy warrior of Fala...you must pass on the blood of Velthomer. And for now, you must hide that fact and nurture your power..." — Coen, Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
