Under Gray Skies is the prologue chapter of part 1 of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. In it, the Dawn Brigade protects the inhabitants of a Daein village from a bandit attack.
Plot
Three years have passed since Crimea defeated Daein in the Mad King's War. Crimea has ceded its right to rule Daein to the Begnion empire, who rules Daein with an iron fist. To protect the people, Micaiah has helped found the Dawn Brigade, a group of vigilantes who oppose Begnion's oppression. One day, Micaiah and her friend Edward are waiting to meet their friend Leonardo when bandits led by Pugo attack. Micaiah and Edward immediately battle the bandits. Leonardo eventually arrives to reinforce them, and the three drive off the bandits and slay Pugo.
Afterwards, the Dawn Brigade earns the admiration of a boy named Nico who was observing the battle. Begnion soldiers arrive to arrest the trio, who immediately flee the area. General Jarod, leader of the occupation army, arrives on the scene. When he learns of the soldiers' continued failure to capture the Dawn Brigade, he murders one of them and orders the rest to obtain information from the villagers. He and his second-in-command Alder agree pursing the Dawn Brigade will liven up their boring assignment.

Strategy

This chapter serves as a nice introduction to Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. You immediately get two units: Micaiah and Edward. Micaiah is one of the game's main Lord-style units, and her death spells an immediate game over. She plays like a Knight, except based on magic instead of physical strength. Edward is in an odd position as far as units go: on Easy and Normal, his excellent growth spread allows him to cap 6 of his stats by the end of the game, making him an extremely good unit. However, on Hard, the penalties to experience gain and his base inferiority to Zihark spell his demise. His unique weapon, Caladbolg, does little good for him since it only gives him +8 Luck. A little later in the chapter, you get the archer Leonardo. His stats are somewhat problematic at times, but he is the Dawn Brigade's only bowman and his unique weapon, the Lughnasadh, gives him a ridiculous +5 Speed boost come part 3. He can be valuable if effort is invested in him.
For the time being, use Edward and Leonardo to weaken enemies and Micaiah to finish them. You want to ensure that Micaiah caps her Magic and Resistance as soon as possible to make good use of Bonus Experience to raise her stats. You can use her Sacrifice ability to keep Edward healthy and give her some extra experience when the opportunity presents itself. Hold on to the Dracoshield in Leonardo's inventory for now; it won't salvage Micaiah's worthless Defense, Leonardo generally doesn't like to engage in direct combat, and you have better tanks than Edward. Just take out the Bandits and Pugo one at a time, use Herbs when you have to, and you shouldn't have trouble coming in under the turn limit for the extra Bonus Experience.
