Dragon's Gate (chapter)/Script
Eliwood's group finally arrives at the titular Dragon's Gate.
Upon arrival Eliwood and the others immediately notice Ninian's distress. Ninian senses something horrible, and panics, realizing that her presence at the gate is a huge mistake. Ephidel seizes the moment and warps in to introduce himself and taunt Hector and the others about the death of Leila. Hector, enraged by Ephidel's jeers, attempts to literally crush Ephidel with his bare hands, but Ephidel proves too nimble.
Ephidel warps to Ninian and then warps her and himself deeper into the Dragon's Gate, near Darin. Ephidel assigns Darin the task of eliminating Eliwood, Hector, and Lyn. Darin is confident in his ability, and encourages Ephidel to bring Ninian to Nergal so they can commence in summoning dragons immediately.
Ephidel leaves Darin and proceeds to the gate itself, where Nergal and Elbert currently are. Nergal is pleased with Ephidel's arrival with Ninian. Elbert is distraught at Ninian's return, and questions Nergal on the state of his son Eliwood. Nergal tells Elbert that Eliwood yet lives, but does not intend for that to last. Elbert, seemingly invigorated by the news, charges Nergal, though the Black Fang assassin Jaffar, who had been watching from the shadows, strikes Elbert, and Elbert collapses. Nergal wonders how Elbert got out of his bonds, though he doesn't particularly care, and requests that Jaffar move Elbert and Ninian to another chamber.
The scene changes back to Eliwood, who is being taunted by the minor secondary boss of the chapter, Cameron. The preparations menu occurs at this point.
During the early stages of the battle, Legault appears on the field from a set of stairs. Legault is confronted by a fellow Black Fang member who does not recognize him. Legault explains himself to the new Black Fang recruit easily, his name and title, the Hurricane, are quite well known in the group. After he's clear of the fresh recruit's questions he initiates his plans to steal some treasure from the building and leave the sinking ship that is the Black Fang behind. Legault either vanishes after he is done looting the chests or speaks with Hector or Eliwood and decides to travel with them, and is sure to reiterate that he is former Black Fang.
After the death of Darin, Eliwood and the others make haste to the deeper reaches of the Dragon's Gate in hopes of encountering Elbert. In the deeper, and darker, areas of the building Eliwood finds Elbert calling out to him weakly. Elbert does not greet Eliwood, and immediately tells him to take Ninian away from there. It is at this point Eliwood realizes that Ninian is even present. Ninian is silent, and Lyn points out that something is wrong, and she will not move. Hector grabs Elbert, and Eliwood Ninian; however before they can leave Jaffar blocks the room's only exit. Elbert warns Eliwood not to fight Jaffar, but Eliwood insists that it is their only choice. Before a fight can break out, however, Ephidel warps into the room and comments similarly to Elbert; Eliwood cannot defeat Jaffar.
Ephidel dismisses Jaffar, and tells Eliwood that his master, Lord Nergal, has a "special show" for him, with the price for said show being the life of Elbert. The next events are somewhat ambiguous, but Elbert screams, and Ninian mumbles the word 'power', presumably having obtained power from Elbert. Nergal appears and commands the brainwashed Ninian to open the Dragon's Gate, and she complies. However, while a dragon begins to emerge from the gate, Nils runs into the room and snaps Ninian out of her hypnosis; causing the gate to deactivate suddenly. Nils tells everyone to flee while they have the chance. Soon after Eliwood and company manage to get away, an explosion occurs spurred on by the gate's sudden deactivation. Nergal manages to warp away in time, leaving Ephidel to die along with the dragon that briefly managed to cross into Elibe. Nergal quickly reappears to grab Ninian and Nils, but Elbert has a last bout of strength and stabs Nergal. Nergal warps away again, leaving Eliwood's group temporarily safe for the time being.
That bout of strength, unfortunately, was Elbert's last. Eliwood tells Elbert they will head home now, however Elbert states that he cannot go on any longer, and apologizes to his wife Eleanora. He dies in Eliwood's arms.
Beginning log
Following Uhai's last words, Eliwood/Hector ventures toward the heart of the forest. He is greeted by an extraordinary sight. A building unlike any he's ever seen. It was clearly not wrought by human hands...It is waiting...waiting for the masters who abandoned it centuries past. Massive beyond belief, these ancient ruins have nothing to do with humankind. Eliwood/Hector has arrived. He has found the Dragon's Gate.

Hannah's Augury | |

Price: 60 |
Intro: This is a terrible place. It fills me with...unease. Let's not be staying here too long, yes? Back to safer ground with us... Ah. Not a quitter, eh? Bah. Your augury, then. Augury: ...Aha... Powerful foes everywhere... Leave those with timid hearts behind. ...Strong defense...and those with distance attacks. Those would be good to have. And...rapiers, armorslayers... magic... These things you need. Ah, I can say no more.

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
This chapter can be very confusing, with a wonky arrangements of rooms and corridors, plenty of chests, doors, and collapsible walls, and multiple routes towards the throne. Bringing Matthew along isn't necessary for this chapter because of the dropped Door Keys and Chest Key, but he will be very convenient. If you decide to deploy Merlinus, there will be reinforcement Pegasus Knights appearing on turns 9 and 10 in the bottom left corner which could easily endanger him. Leaving one or two units to defend Merlinus and kill the Pegasus Knights is recommended. Also, the secret shops on this chapter don't offer any notably, spectacular items, so visiting them is not recommended.
The most common approach to this chapter is to move through the western corridor with some type of axe user taking the lead in order to deal with all of the Cavaliers and Cameron. The narrow hallway provides a neat choke point that funnels enemy units as they approach. This route also provides access to western chests located on the map. You should also go out of your way to kill the Sniper in the south western room and open the chest located next to him. This chest contains the only obtainable Brave Bow in the entire game and will be especially potent if given to a well-trained bow user—like Rebecca.
Cameron will be the easier of the two bosses in this chapter. He will wield a Halberd in Normal mode, so make sure you do not attack him with mounted units like Kent or Sain. Aside from that, killing him should be straight forward—any axe user should do. Any of your lords' signature weapons, Rapier, Wolf Beil, or Mani Katti, should also be effective.
By the time you have killed all the cavaliers and Cameron, you should be making your way to intercept Legault in order to recruit him. He will most likely have opened both eastern chests, meaning that by recruiting him you will also obtain a Barrier staff as well as a Guiding Ring. On turn 7, a reinforcement Thief should appear holding a Member Card. This is the only obtainable Member Card in the entire game, so taking an effort to steal it now could be invaluable in the future. After these objectives, you should be nearing Darin and the throne.
Darin can be a difficult boss if you are not prepared. First, you want to bombard him with magic attacks from a distance. He does have very high resistance, so don't expect magic attacks alone to kill him. Canas wielding Luna will be especially strong because the tome ignores resistance. Note, attacking from range will not be a safe option in hard mode as Darin will be wielding a Spear. Afterwards, you'll need some melee attackers in order to finish him off. Some strong options include Dart wielding a Hammer, Kent/Sain with a Heavy Spear, Hector's Wolf Beil, or any sword user with Armorslayer. Kill Darin, then seize the throne.
Trivia
- Cameron shares his base portrait with Maxime, the secondary boss of Chapter 26E/28H, though Maxime is recolored. Cameron and Maxime also both lack a battle quote and death quote despite having lines before their respective chapters begin.
