You have a major decision to make in this chapter - whether or not to sacrifice the Lightsphere and Starsphere to obtain Starlight and eventually Falchion. On the NES, Marth is one of the strongest units in the game and the Falchion makes him immune to 1-range attacks that don't come from mages or Manaketes, making this a no-brainer. On the DS, however, his stat spread makes it highly likely that he won't survive combat with Medeus even at level 30 without significant stat booster favoritism. The Falchion is decent, giving Marth the ability to two-shot enemy Manaketes with a mere 16 Strength (minus one for every time he's improved his sword rank) and having infinite durability. However, a simple forged Wyrmslayer would deal more damage to generic Manaketes, and Tiki stands a much better chance against Medeus. It therefore may be a good idea to ignore Gotoh's village and keep the spheres for infinite durability for your best weapons and the ability to ignore terrain. If you do decide to trade the spheres for Falchion, you can always use Lena's 12-use Hammerne staff to maintain your weapons. The choice, as always, is yours. Also note that this is the only chapter you can buy ballistae in bulk, so now's a good chance to stock up.
The Dilemma of the Spheres:
* The central choice in this mission is whether or not to sacrifice the Lightsphere and Starsphere to obtain Starlight and, eventually, Falchion.
* In the NES version, obtaining Falchion is highly advantageous due to Marth's strengths and the sword's features, like immunity to certain attacks.
* In the DS version, Marth's stat distribution makes him less likely to survive the final battle, even at high levels, without substantial investment in stat-boosting items. Falchion's benefits here are more nuanced, and alternatives like using a Wyrmslayer or relying on other units like Tiki might be more effective, especially on higher difficulties.
* Consider keeping the spheres for their utility unless you're committed to enhancing Marth's durability for the endgame.
* If you take Falchion, Lena's Hammerne can make up for the loss of the Starsphere's utility.

On to the battle itself. Push counterclockwise around the mountain and meet the first wave. It's highly unlikely you'll be able to beat the Thief to Gotoh's village, so if you want to intercept him out of pride or to get Starlight you'll probably need to expend a Warp charge. The biggest problem is the reinforcements that pour out of the capital, including several dangerous Swarm Bishops. Pick them off with your artillery and keep a healer near your magically squishy units to keep them alive. If you have two powerful tanks, you can plug up the northern stairs and turn them into a safe chokepoint. Michalis himself isn't too dangerous.
Unit and Resource Management:
* Make sure Warriors and Generals are equipped with bows for dealing with flying units.
* Distribute staves among eligible units, and don't hesitate to use powerful ones like Fortify, Barrier, or Physic.
* Buy items like Silver Lances, Killer weapons, and bows. This is also your only chance to buy artillery weapons for your Ballisticians.

Battle Strategy:
* Move counterclockwise around the mountain to meet the first wave of enemies. Reinforcements, including Swarm Bishops, are significant threats.
* Use Ballisticians to deal with the Bishops, and keep healers nearby for support.
* Plug the northern stairs with tanks to create a chokepoint if possible.
* Consider using the Warp Staff to save the game at crucial points or intercept the Thief that goes for Gotoh's village.
* Prevent the Thief from destroying the Village at all costs if you opt for Starlight; this requires that Marth carry the Starsphere and Lightsphere.
* Boss - Michalis: While his Iote's Shield makes him immune to arrows, he is vulnerable to magic. Give this Shield to your strongest flier.

A Knight-Filled Sky (Japanese: 天空を駆ける騎士 Sky-Riding Knights) is the twenty-second chapter in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light and Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the seventeenth chapter in Book I of Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem.

Plot

Main article: A Knight-Filled Sky/Script

As Marth and his companions approach the capital of Macedon, Michalis asks Gotoh to evacuate until the fighting ends. Gotoh makes one last effort to convince Michalis to surrender, which falls on deaf ears. Marth besieges Macedon, transforms the Lightsphere and Starsphere into Starlight, and defeats Michalis. He and Malledus lament how Michalis and Camus had their potential wasted by Gharnef's destructive war and prepare to make for Thabes.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

The Dilemma of the Spheres:

 • The central choice in this mission is whether or not to sacrifice the Lightsphere and Starsphere to obtain Starlight and, eventually, Falchion.
 • In the NES version, obtaining Falchion is highly advantageous due to Marth's strengths and the sword's features, like immunity to certain attacks.
 • In the DS version, Marth's stat distribution makes him less likely to survive the final battle, even at high levels, without substantial investment in stat-boosting items. Falchion's benefits here are more nuanced, and alternatives like using a Wyrmslayer or relying on other units like Tiki might be more effective, especially on higher difficulties.
 • Consider keeping the spheres for their utility unless you're committed to enhancing Marth's durability for the endgame.
 • If you take Falchion, Lena's Hammerne can make up for the loss of the Starsphere's utility.

Unit and Resource Management:

 • Make sure Warriors and Generals are equipped with bows for dealing with flying units.
 • Distribute staves among eligible units, and don't hesitate to use powerful ones like Fortify, Barrier, or Physic.
 • Buy items like Silver Lances, Killer weapons, and bows. This is also your only chance to buy artillery weapons for your Ballisticians.

Battle Strategy:

 • Move counterclockwise around the mountain to meet the first wave of enemies. Reinforcements, including Swarm Bishops, are significant threats.
 • Use Ballisticians to deal with the Bishops, and keep healers nearby for support.
 • Plug the northern stairs with tanks to create a chokepoint if possible.
 • Consider using the Warp Staff to save the game at crucial points or intercept the Thief that goes for Gotoh's village.
 • Prevent the Thief from destroying the Village at all costs if you opt for Starlight; this requires that Marth carry the Starsphere and Lightsphere.
 • Boss - Michalis: While his Iote's Shield makes him immune to arrows, he is vulnerable to magic. Give this Shield to your strongest flier.
