The Dread Isle/Script
The chapter opens on Nergal and Elbert at the Dragon’s Gate. Nergal has discovered that Elbert freed Ninian and Nils, preventing him from completing the ritual to summon dragons back to Elibe. Elbert once again attempts to appeal to Darin’s reason and make him turn against the Black Fang, but Darin’s last bit of sanity has long since departed and Elbert fails. Nergal reveals that his original intent with starting a war in Lycia was related to the summoning of the dragons, but stops short of revealing his plans entirely. After stabbing Elbert, Nergal calls his morphs and gives them each a task. Limstella is commanded to contact Sonia and arrange a meeting with the King of Bern. Ephidel is commanded to take Darin along with him and defeat Eliwood’s group. Nergal confirms for Elbert that Eliwood has indeed come to the Dread Isle along with the previously escaped Ninian. All Elbert can do is plea for Eliwood to leave the island with Ninian and never look back. Leila, who has been eavesdropping on the conversation, attempts to flee and tell Hector of what she has learned; however, Ephidel catches her in the act and has Jaffar kill her. Ephidel then orders for Leila’s corpse to be left in the path of Eliwood’s company to serve as a warning.
Eliwood, Hector, and Lyn begin their search for the Dragon’s Gate. Soon after, the group runs into Leila’s corpse. If Matthew is alive, he will tell the group that he planned to leave his profession as a spy alongside her and will sorrowfully remark that he waited too long. Matthew briefly leaves the group to bury her and mourn in private. Ninian suddenly warns the group that danger is approaching, but before anyone can react, Uhai rides out of the fog and grabs Lyn. Uhai demands that they relinquish Ninian to him and the Black Fang or he will kill his hostage. Eliwood refuses Uhai’s demands, prompting Uhai to explain how pointless it is to struggle against one as powerful as Nergal. Nevertheless, Eliwood still refuses his demands and promises to fight against the Black Fang no matter the odds. Uhai, out of respect for Eliwood's determination and Lyn's Sacaen heritage, decides to grant Lyn and the others a warrior's death. He drops Lyn and allows the group to prepare for battle.
If Matthew is deployed in this chapter, he will return before the battle starts. Hector tries to give him permission to not participate in the battle, but Matthew refuses and says that Leila would never forgive him if she knew he was shirking his duties. During the battle, Florina’s sister, Fiora, will arrive on the battlefield. If Florina talks to her, Fiora will reveal that she was investigating Dread Isle on behalf of someone, but she misjudged the situation and her entire squadron is dead due to her blunder. Florina admits to Fiora that she has always looked up to her abilities as a Pegasus Knight and tells her to stop beating herself up over the deaths of her comrades. Florina manages to snap Fiora out of her self pity and suggests that she join Eliwood's company so that they can fight side-by-side. Fiora accepts her invitation and joins the army.
Once Uhai is defeated, he will provide the group with instructions on how to get to the Dragon’s Gate with his last breath. Lyn convinces the group to believe his dying words to be truth as Sacaens never lie. As the rest of the group proceeds towards the rotted tree Uhai mentioned, Hector stops for a moment and swears to himself that he will destroy the Black Fang for killing Leila.
Beginning log
Eliwood/Hector arrives on the shores of Valor with a new companion in his numbers, an enigmatic young girl named Ninian. The majority of the island is covered in dense forest. Legend has it that no one has ever returned from those dark woods. A dense fog crawls over the party, engulfing them one by one... Cautiously, they move deeper into the trees.

Trivia
- In Eliwood hard mode, certain enemy nomads use the female nomad map sprite from The Binding Blade. However, these nomads have the usual male sprite while in battle, and looking at their aid indicates that they are considered male.
