The Sable Order (黒騎士団 Black Knights) was an elite order of knights in the service of the Kingdom of Grust. Led by the legendary General Camus, it was composed primarily of cavalry units.
Overview
In the War of Shadows, when King Ludwik chose to ally with Dolhr, the Sable Order complied in its entirely; even though several members of the Order - including Camus himself - expressed misgivings about contributing to Dolhr's brutality, they nonetheless complied out of loyalty to their king and country. When the Archanean palace fell to Dolhr, Camus and the Order arrived to provide backup against the tenacious group of knights guarding Princess Nyna, and afterward took custody of the Archanean capital, providing Nyna with some measure of defense against the wishes of Medeus to have her killed. Within several years, Medeus's patience grew thin with this tactic, and so Camus led a trio of Sable Knights in escorting Nyna to safety in Aurelis, all of whom deserted the order in a bid to avoid the rest of Dolhr being punished for their actions; the knights were captured to ensure Nyna's escape, and at Camus's insistence, he bore the full brunt of discipline while his men escaped unscathed.
Near the War's end, the Order confronted Marth's Archanean League liberation army twice: they first attempted to obstruct him from crossing Chiasmir, without success, and later participated in the effort to repel Marth's invasion of Grust itself. Camus was present at the latter fight and, refusing to turn coat despite Marth and Nyna's pleas, engaged them in battle and lost, disappearing. With Grust's fall, the Sable Order was largely no more: its sole three survivors, the trio who assisted in Nyna's escape, joined Marth's forces three years later in the War of Heroes.
