Archanea (country)

“ | The kingdom Adrah forged was pronounced holy; its kings were esteemed. With Akaneia's aid, six more independent kingdoms sprang up in their own time. But Akaneia was always the greatest- and now, Marth was about to take his first walk through its historic palace's halls. | ” | — Shadow Dragon narration, on Archanea |

The Holy Kingdom of Archanea (アカネイア, Akaneia) was the grandest and most powerful nation of the continent of the same name, occupying much of the southeastern peninsula of the continent, bordering Aurelis to the north, and neighbouring Talys to the east. The capital is Pales, also known as the Millennium Court, the home of the royal family situated just to the north of Knorda Market.
Some six hundred years ago, the territory of Archanea was little more than numerous isolated city-states and the remnants of the effectively extinct dragon civilization, until the thief Adrah stole the Shield of Seals from the Fane of Raman and used the funds from selling the five spheres to raise an army and, in combination with three stolen weapons which would later become Archanea's Regalia conquer the territory, unify it into a kingdom and declare himself king. The orbless remains of the Shield of Seals became the crest of the kingdom, now known as the Fire Emblem.
Five hundred years later came the rise of Medeus and his Dolhr empire. The Archanea royal family was exterminated save for Princess Artemis, who took refuge in the Altea region. One of the kingdom's dukes, Cartas, had come into possession of the Fire Emblem and rallied a liberation army at Pales, which successfully combatted the forces of Dolhr while Anri, wielder of the Falchion, eventually slew Medeus. After the war, Artemis reluctantly married Cartas at the request of the Archanean people, and he became the king. Cartas's younger brother, Marlon, seceded the northern plains from the country to form the kingdom of Aurelis, a close ally of Archanea.
One hundred years after that, Medeus was revived by Gharnef, igniting the War of Shadows. Again, the entire royal family was wiped out save for Princess Nyna, who was captured in an attempt to flee the palace with a retinue of knights. For three years, the forces of Grust occupied the palace with Nyna imprisoned under the care of its Sable Order, until its leader Camus spirited her to safety in Aurelis under the care of its Prince Hardin.
In time, a combined Altea/Aurelis/Archanea army formed, spearheaded by Altea's Prince Marth, and liberated Archanea and returned it to the custody of Nyna. After the war, Nyna married Hardin on the advice of Bishop Boah, making him the new king, but the loveless marriage eventually twisted Hardin into a vicious tyrant who set the continent ablaze in the War of Heroes. With Hardin's death and the end of the war, Nyna ceded the kingdom into the hands of Marth, as did many other rulers, and so the United Kingdom of Archanea was formed.
The kingdom was ruled by twenty-four kings over its six centuries of existence, of whom only four are known: Adrah, the founder; Cartas, the king at the time of Medeus's first uprising; Nyna's father, the king at the onset of the War of Shadows, and Hardin, the last king before the unification of the continent under Marth.
