“ | ...What I can say is that your place is no longer in the Empire. Lady Olwen, let’s join Prince Leif’s army. | ” | — Fred to Olwen in Chapter 11x: Murder Hollace |
---|
Fred (Japanese: フレッド Fred) is a playable paladin in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. He is subordinate to and protector of Olwen. He is a knight of House Stase.[2]
Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
Role
Fred is first seen accompanying Olwen to Noel Canyon in Chapter 10. He does not say much other than that he thinks Kempf has a grudge against Olwen to send her on tedious daily missions to the canyon.[3]
He returns with Olwen to Dandrum Fortress in Chapter 11 to report the attack on the fortress in Noel Canyon. He witnesses Kempf send Olwen to the dungeon and accuses Kempf of instigating and imprisoning her for personal reasons.[4] Kempf denies this and has Fred sent to head the defenses of the fortress. Kempf encourages Fred to get killed in battle; if he retreats Kempf says he will ensure Olwen's execution.[5] For the sake of Olwen, Fred obeys Kempf's orders. During the battle, Leif, seeing Fred's distaste for the underhanded tactics being employed, allows Fred to escape instead of fighting him to the death.[6]
If Fred survived Chapter 11 he appears in Chapter 11x and assists Olwen in escaping from the fortress's prison. Olwen decides to join Leif's forces to rescue children captured in the child hunts captured by the Friege house; Fred agrees to accompany her.[7]

Kempf: Hm? What's the matter, Fred? Is something wrong?
Fred: You know what's wrong! What did Lady Olwen do? Punishing troops for personal reasons goes against military laws. Please release her immediately, or else I will take this matter to Queen Ishtar!" — Fred to Kempf, Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 - ↑ "Anyway, you will have to take responsibility for your commander's misbehavior. Fred: Yes... I still have things to do. Very well, let us work together to escape.
Leif: All right. We're going to charge the castle, and you can escape to the south. We'll do something about the door." — Leif to Fred, Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 - ↑ "Fred: Thank goodness you're all right. Let's escape... ...Is something wrong? You look pale...
Olwen: Fred... What have we been fighting for all this time?
Fred: Lady Olwen...?
Olwen: What have I been doing? Helping the Empire snatch innocent children away from their families? Or helping them send the children to Belhalla to be sacrificed?
Fred: Lady Olwen...
Olwen: I... I never had any hesitations about my job until now. I thought that I would always be doing the right thing just as long as I was following my brother. But now... Now, I don't know any more! I can't believe in anything! What should I do...?
Fred: ...What I can say is that your place is no longer in the Empire. Lady Olwen, let's join Prince Leif's army." — Fred to Olwen, Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
