Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Sleuf joins in chapter 16A and can recruit Amalda in chapter 19. He makes a poor combat unit because of his fragility - 1 defense and 18 HP at this stage of the game does not count for much, meaning he will easily die to physical fighters and is more liable to get fatigued easily. An FCM of 0 does not help, and he cannot even use weapons before promoting. That said, thanks to his A-rank in staves, Sleuf can use any non-personal staff in the game, making for an excellent utility unit. With over 10 skill, he does not face chances of missing when he uses staves, and his magic will usually be high enough to silence or sleep an enemy. If it is insufficient, he can receive a Pure Water or a Magic Up boost to bolster his magic and reach the required threshold. Aside from status and healing staves, Sleuf can also use supportive staves, like Warp. As an extra benefit, he has three action stars, giving him a 15% chance to move again after he ends his turn. This is unreliable, but helpful for a staff user since it can allow Sleuf to use a strong staff twice in a single turn.
Sleuf's promotion to High Priest is among the worst promotions in the game. An E-rank in light magic is hardly ever useful, considering Sleuf is not a good combat unit to begin with. And even if by some miracle he could perform competently as an offensive spellcaster (especially through the usage of Crusader Scrolls), there are very few Light magic tomes for him to use outside of the chapter 22 shop. The promotion's other bonuses are also pitiful - +3 magic is the only remarkable benefit. Sleuf is still sometimes worth promoting since the +3 magic helps him meet certain thresholds, and being able to equip a weapon means that enemies won't instantly capture him and take his items. That said, most other promotions in Thracia 776 outshine his.
Despite a lackluster promotion and terrible combat, Sleuf is a useful unit. The mere fact he has an A-rank in staves makes him a great utility unit. Staff utility in Thracia is valuable, with a massive number of applications. The game has a variety of obtainable staves, and Sleuf can use almost all of them with no investment.

Endings
Sleuf, Priest of Bragi
After the war, instead of returning to the Tower of Bragi, Sleuf traveled around the continent spreading the teachings of Edda. Sleuf inspired other priests to do the same, and the Edda Church eventually became one of the leading religions of the continent.
