Plot

Main article: Distant Blade/Script

As Eirika makes her way towards Rausten, Emperor Vigarde relays new orders to his generals in Grado Keep. The emperor sends Glen to capture Eirika and Valter, to Ephraim. He then orders Caellach to destroy the Sacred Stone of Jehanna and Riev, to destroy Rausten’s stone. At last, the emperor orders Duessel to meet Ephraim and the army provided to him by Frelia and tells Selena to await further orders in the capital.

Meanwhile, outside of Port Kris in Carcino, Tana suddenly calls out to Eirika. When Tana reaches the princess she explains that she could not just let Eirika charge into danger without accompanying her. Eirika tries to make Tana return to the castle as King Hayden likely did not grant her permission to leave. Tana continues to insist, refusing to be left out of her noble cause. Eirika eventually relents and welcomes her into her company.

Once Eirika arrives in Port Kris, Seth ensures Eirika remembers the fake identity they agreed she would use to avoid enemies of Renais’ throne. Eirika automatically responds that her name is Erina and that they are going to Rausten to receive commission. Just as they are about to seek a ship to their destination, Eirika notices L'Arachel nearby. Eirika approaches the energetic Troubadour and greets her. L’arachel offers Eirika a pastry, though she refuses it and asks L’arachel if she knows of any ships sailing for Rausten. L’arachel responds that she too has been attempting to return to Rausten to no avail as no ships will set sail in the waters due to the recent appearance of the ghost ship in Magvel’s waters. Due to this development, L’arachel suggests that Eirika pass through the significantly longer overland route to reach Rausten. L’arachel waxes poetically about the opportunities the road provides to build one’s resolve and strength and promptly departs for Rausten with Dozla and a reluctant Rennac in tow. After they leave, Eirika notes that L’arachel went the wrong way and is actually headed towards Frelia, though Seth insists that they focus on their own issues for the time being. Suddenly, Eirika is approached by another colorful character by the name of Binks. The sellsword asks if she is Princess Eirika of Renais instantly signalling to the group that he has been sent to capture Eirika, prompting the group to prepare themselves for battle.

During the battle, Soldier reinforcements appear on the battlefield. Among their ranks is a fresh recruit by the name of Amelia. Eventually, Franz or Eirika happen across the amateur soldier and assume she is a citizen. Amelia manages to correct their assumption and clarify that she is a soldier of Grado. Faced with her first enemy, Amelia seemingly surrenders, asking Franz if he plans to take her prisoner. Franz promises that he is not taking her prisoner and tries to take her to Eirika to see if they can have her join their army. Amelia initially resists as she has been told Eirika is cruel and heartless by her commander, though Franz assures her those accusations are false. If she is speaking with Eirika, Amelia will immediately surrender and clarify that she joined the army because she admired Duessel; however, the generals are clearly opposed to the war, which leaves Amelia confused and wanting the understand the truth for herself. Amelia can also clearly see Eirika does not fit the description of her commander, prompting her to join Eirika’s army.

Once the group manages to rout Binks and his subordinates, Seth corners one of the remaining mercenaries and forces him to reveal who his employer is. The mercenary refuses at first but eventually gives up the name of Pablo, one of the members of the Carcino Council of Elders. After Seth lets the man go, Eirika realizes that Innes is in danger as he was going to pass through Carcino to reach Jehanna. Immediately after realizing this, a messenger arrives to inform Eirika that Innes has been trapped by Carcino’s forces in a siege. Eirika sends the messenger on their way to Frelia and assures them that she will save the prince herself. Before they leave the port to save Innes however, one of L’arachel’s attendants, Rennac, comes out of his hiding spot and asks if his former employer has left. Eirika confirms that the two he was traveling with have departed, prompting Rennac to rejoice and announce that he plans to just wander around now that he is free of his stingy employer. Eirika briefly remarks on the strange relationships L’arachel has with her attendants and quickly departs to fight as the side of the Prince of Frelia.

Beginning log

Eirika chooses to travel by sea to the theocracy of Rausten. Her search for a ship leads her to Port Kiris in Carcino. Carcino is a young nation ruled by a council of merchants, and it is an ally of Frelia. Carcino council leader Klimt, a staunch opponent of Grado's imperialistic actions, has pledged Carcino's support to Frelia in this conflict. Prince Innes also intends to pass through Carcino on his way to Jehanna. Eirika believes there is nothing to fear in Carcino, but she is wrong.

Strategy

This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody.

Note: Move Franz to the lower left-hand side of the map quickly in order to get Amelia. For this chapter, you will want to have trained a strong sword or axe user (a lance user is only useful if he switches to his bow) in order to defeat Binks.

First, push your units (mounted units are very useful in this chapter) through the enemies. Seth, Forde, Franz, and Kyle should all push through, with Gilliam, Joshua, or Ross close behind. Have Tana and/or Vanessa serve as backup units (if Vanessa is promoted, use her alongside Seth). Proceed to Amelia WITH CAUTION (she WILL attack anyone who comes too close-- this is bad for her because she is weak at the beginning). Let Franz handle her (or Eirika- Franz is easier to push with however). Afterward, head over to Binks and kill him with a well-trained unit. You'll want to kill him in one or two turns because: a. Magic units can be killed very easily by his bow. b. He has a Killer Axe, which can (and likely will) kill most units. Avoid using a lance-locked character unless he is switched to his bow. Note that Amelia can do nothing to him.

Trivia

  • Rennac makes a cameo appearance when visiting the eastern village.
