The Fell Dragons (Japanese: 邪竜 Evil Dragon) are a type of dragon that have appeared in both Ylisse and Elyos. They are among the most powerful kinds of dragons, with power rivaling or even surpassing that of the divine dragons, and are often characterized by a disdain for humankind and a desire to eliminate them. One fell dragon, Grima, is revered as a god by the country of Plegia.
History
Archanea and Ylisse
The only known Fell Dragon in Ylisse is Grima. Long before the events of Shadow Dragon, Grima was created by Forneus, an alchemist from Thabes who sought to resurrect the dead and create a "perfect life form". Forneus created Grima through unknown means (though it is implied he was created from divine dragon blood[1]), and Grima began to grow when he received some of Forneus's blood.[2] Forneus also created the Death Masks that could turn corpses into Risen soldiers.[3] Eventually, the senate of Thabes sealed Forneus, Grima, and the Death Masks within Thabes Labyrinth.[4]
In Archanean year 608, Alm and Celica sailed from Valentia to Archanea's west coast; there, they removed the seal from Thabes Labyrinth and ventured inside, where they encountered and defeated Grima.
One thousand years later, Grima emerged from Thabes Labyrinth and wreaked havoc on Archanea, now known as Ylisse. In doing so, Grima made blood pacts with humans and came to possess them; these followers would become the Grimleal. Eventually, Grima is defeated by the first exalt of Ylisse—an ancestor to Chrom—and is put into a slumber. Following Grima's defeat, the Grimleal founded the country of Plegia, and awaited the birth of a child whose blood was pure enough for a resurrected Grima to possess.
One thousand years after his first attack, Robin is born to the Grimleal member Validar, and is a suitable vessel for Grima. The Grimleal successfully steal the Fire Emblem and resurrect Grima, allowing him to devastate Ylisse once more. After years of resistance, Chrom's daughter Lucina uses Naga's power to travel back in time and prevent Grima's resurrection; Grima follows her and attempts to posses Robin, but is too weakened by the time travel to do so. Though Lucina is unable to prevent Grima's resurrection, she is able to aid Chrom and Robin in defeating him before he can destroy Ylisse.
