Cavalier

From Fire Emblem Wiki, your source on Fire Emblem information. By fans, for fans.
Revision as of 22:08, 12 February 2020 by Thecornerman (talk | contribs) (→‎Flavor text: Added Three Houses Japanese flavor text)

The Cavalier (Japanese: ソシアルナイト Social Knight) is a basic class of soldiers fighting on horseback. Cavaliers have appeared in every Fire Emblem series game to date except for Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, in which the class is instead divided into four separate weapon-specialist classes: Sword Knight, Lance Knight, Axe Knight and Bow Knight.

Cavalier

FEMN Cavalier.png
Artwork of the Cavalier from the Fire Emblem Trading Card Game.

A mighty opponent who battles on horseback, the Cavalier can move again after taking certain actions.

Unit type(s)
  • Mounted (all titles except Awakening and Fates)
  • Infantry (replaces Mounted when dismounted; Thracia 776, Three Houses)
  • Beast (Awakening and Fates)
Weapon(s)
  • Lance (Gaiden, Mystery of the Emblem, Echoes: Shadows of Valentia)
  • Sword, Lance (all other appearances; speciality in Three Houses)
  • Various (Three Houses)
Skill(s)

Cavaliers are regularly described by the games as a balanced class, designed with all of its stats around the average (with the exception of magic and resistance). They strike a solid balance of offence, defense and agility, which when combined with their excellent movement allow them to perform well at the front lines of battle. Rare for a basic class, they normally have access to both swords and lances (the exceptions being Gaiden, its remake, Echoes: Shadows of Valentia and Mystery of the Emblem), allowing them greater diversity in combat. Mystery of the Emblem and Thracia 776 grant Cavaliers the ability to dismount, required to enable them to operate indoors; this forces them to use only swords and nullifies bonus damage to them.

In all appearances, Cavaliers promote to the Paladin class; Gaiden and Shadows of Valentia adds a third-tier class to their promotion line, the Gold Knight, while The Sacred Stones, Awakening, and Fates allow them to choose between promoting to Paladin and Great Knight.
