The (Japanese: 見習い Apprentice) is a lance-wielding class appearing in the Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones prototype that was eventually cut prior to the final release of the game. It was intended to be a "trainee" class and, as such, would have gained experience rapidly, and upon reaching level ten, would have promoted upon the start of the next chapter. The Apprentice was a mounted flight class and thus would have suffered bonus damage to Bows and wind magic.
Apprentices are known to have had two promotion options back when it existed. The first is to a Pegasus Knight, which then can promote to a Falcon Knight or a Wyvern Knight. The other option is a Wyvern Rider, which can promote into a Wyvern Knight or a Wyvern Lord. It is unknown if the second- and third-tier trainee mechanic existed at this point in development; if it did, it is unknown what bonus a third-tier Apprentice would have received and which class would have been the alternative to the third-tier Apprentice.
During the period of development when the Apprentice was in the game, it was the class belonging to Amelia, at that point in time the princess of Frelia. In the final release of the game, the princess of Frelia was Tana, locked into the Pegasus Knight class; the Apprentice class was replaced by the Recruit, a trainee class assigned to the final release's version of Amelia, now a soldier of Grado. No unique sprites were ever designed for the Apprentice; its map sprites were those of the Falcoknight and its battle sprites were those of the Pegasus Knight.
