“ | 'Course, my Jake won’t talk to no-one but the most beautiful of women... | ” | — Anna, on her own appearance |
---|
Anna (Japanese: アンナ Anna) is a recurring character from across the entire Fire Emblem series, save Gaiden. Across the series she has appeared in a diverse number of gameplay support roles - she most frequently recurs as the proprietor of the Secret Shops and confirming whether a player wants to suspend their game - and it is strongly implied that she travels the various Fire Emblem universes with her romantic interest, Jake, having notably made stops in Jugdral and Elibe. While Anna's facial features may slightly change from game to game, she is never seen without a sly smile, her index finger resting on her face, and her red hair tied back in a ponytail. After twelve games and twenty-two years of minor support appearances, Anna first became a playable character in Fire Emblem Awakening while still reprising some of her roles from the previous games.
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light and Shadow Dragon
During the Archanea League's march to recapture Pales, Anna was living in a house in Knorda. When visited, she mentioned that Jake was working for theoretical Grust occupation forces as a ballistician, telling the player that Jake was not a bad man at all and asking the player to pass on her well-wishes. This prompted Caeda to try talking to Jake, convincing him to defect and ally with Marth; when Jake visited Anna, she encouraged him in this new endeavour, expressing her belief that he would only ever fight for a righteous cause.
Though this role of hers was omitted—along with Jake himself—from Mystery of the Emblem Book 1, she still appears in the capacity of the Secret Shop proprietor in these three games and New Mystery of the Emblem. In Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light and both books of Mystery of the Emblem, she also appears on the game over screen. She also appears on the save screen only in Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light.
Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
In a village in Lenster, during the liberation army's fight against Bloom's control of the Munster District, Anna appeared before Laylea and gave her a Barrier Blade. She mentioned that Jake had already departed to join the liberation war effort, fighting her for, and remarked that Laylea looked as though she was doing the same.
Anna will not appear if her village is visited by any other character; as such, her appearance is only possible if Silvia did not have children. She also runs the supply.
Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade
Anna was staying at the inn of Badon at the time of Fargus's challenge to Eliwood, Hector and Lyn. She gave them some advice on completing the gauntlet, which she in turn had learned from Jake, who was part of Fargus's crew at the time. She also asked that they pass her well-wishes on to Jake should they run into him.
If the player visits the inn during The Port of Badon, the next chapter, Pirate Ship, will feature different dialogue just before the battle; instead of Dart explaining the presence of merchants on the ship, Jake will instead speak with the army.
In a non-story capacity, Anna runs the game's secret shops and Link Arena, and also appears in the prompt to erase all saved data; she also fills the same roles in the other Game Boy Advance installments, The Binding Blade and The Sacred Stones.
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn
Anna makes fewer appearances in these games due to the lack of Secret Shops, and she no longer appears in the prompt for the player to suspend their data. Instead, Anna hosts the in-game tutorial segments for the two games.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
Anna reprises her role as the traveling merchant who occasionally appears on the world map. In this game, it is explained how Anna makes multiple appearances: she has many sisters, all named Anna.
One Anna appears in Paralogue 2, trying to protect a village from a band of thieves led by Victor. Once Victor is defeated, this Anna thanks the Shepherds for the help.
The above Anna's sister appears in Paralogue 4, being targeted by Victor's brother, Vincent. If Chrom talks to Anna, she will agree to join the Shepherds once the paralogue is complete.
Depending on which paralogue was done first, Chrom will think the second Anna he helped was the same one he helped before, but she clarifies that the other Anna is her sister.
If Anna is unmarried at the end of the game, she will leave the Shepherds to continue her merchant life.
Another version of Anna serves as the game's ultimate superboss, fighting the player at the end of the secret route of Apotheosis.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE
Two Annas[2] appear in Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE running Hee Ho Mart in Shibuya. The first (known as "Salesclerk") sells items to the general public, while the other one (known as "Masked Salesclerk") only sells items to Mirage Masters.
Fire Emblem Heroes
There are three different variations of Anna available to Heroes, two of which are tied to her storyline appearance in Heroes and one of which is tied to her storyline appearance in Awakening.
As far as Heroes-based variations go, the normal variation of Anna is one of the characters available from the game's initial launch; prior to version 2.5, the normal variation of Anna began the game as a two-star unit, whereas players who first begin the game after the release of version 2.5 have her begin the game as a four-star unit instead. A New Year's-themed variation of Anna was made available between the period of January 1, 2020 through February 6, 2020 as part of the summoning event surrounding the Renewed Spirit update.
As far as non-Heroes-based variations go, an Awakening-based variation of Anna, based on the Anna in charge of Castle Apotheosis, was added to the game in the Wallowing in Love update, and became available for summoning by players on June 5, 2020.
Role
- The below role applies to her normal Heroes-based variation, not to any subsequent variations.
Anna appears in Fire Emblem Heroes, where she is the commander of the Order of Heroes, to whom Alfonse and Sharena report directly. Unlike her sisters, this Anna is not a merchant, but she does express her now-characteristic love of profit in some of the story paralogues, such as Bridal Blessings and Ylissean Summer.
As Anna is a unique unit, she cannot be acquired via summoning, nor can she be dismissed in exchange for Hero Feathers.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Like the other main characters of the game, Anna: Commander cannot be merged for more power, kicked out of the player's barracks, or sacrificed as inheritance fodder. To be quite frank, this makes her a top contender for the single worst unit in the game. Anna is also let down by her poor Attack (only 29 at 5* level 40 which cannot be salvaged through merges) and terrible personal weapon (teleport to nearby allies). Her only trait of value is her consistent presence as a bonus unit in Arena and Aether Raids. If you're desperate enough to field her, you could try giving her a Wo Gùn and Glimmer or a Slaying Axe and Moonbow, but you should never use her if you can help it.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Anna: Wealth Wisher is one of a handful of red bow users in the game, giving her a solid niche to fill. Her base kit revolves around using her great Resistance to lower enemy stats, so she makes a good candidate for the Phantom Resistance sacred seal. She also has great Speed, so you can either make her a glass cannon with the Brave Bow or Firesweep Bow or make her a magic tank with the Guard Bow and Swift Stance. She does especially well against green fliers, of course.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Anna: Secret Seller boasts 47/59 offenses against targets at high HP when accompanied by a full team of allies, making her a powerful enemy phase unit who doesn't need to rely on Quick Riposte to ensure she doubles. Her biggest issue is her questionable bulk, so make sure to give her defensive buffs with skills like Rally Defense or Spur Resistance to make sure she stays alive.
Fire Emblem Warriors
Role
Anna serves as Warriors's "secret" playable character and is very likely to be the last character the player obtains outside of downloadable content. Her most prominent appearances are in her challenge maps in History Mode; she does not appear in the main story outside of when she opens her shops for the player to collect Anna's Mementos. The maps that unlock her are the highest level scenarios in the base game, though harder maps appear in some DLC and free updates.
Anna shares her moveset with Takumi, Sakura, and the downloadable content character Niles.

Robin, High Deliver & Anna, Secret Seller
Many wrote of Robin's legendary exploits, but accounts of his origins and character varied. Scholars, poets, and bards agreed on one thing alone—he loved his wife, Anna, above all else.
Fates
Anna, Secretive Merchant (single ending)
Anna returned to merchant life, revitalizing trade in parts of the world most affected by the war. Official records show how her network and name were passed down to the next generation.
Corrin, Crux of Fate & Anna, Secretive Merchant (Birthright and Conquest)
Corrin was hailed as a hero, working alongside his spouse to spread peace worldwide. His wife, Anna, continued to travel the world as a merchant. It is said the two were very much in love.
Corrin, King of Valla & Anna, Secretive Merchant (Revelation)
The two spent the rest of their lives together, Corrin ruling as the wise King of Valla. His wife, Anna, continued to travel the world as a merchant. It is said the two were very much in love.
Three Houses
Anna, Traveling Merchant
Anna's business savvy proved to be a great asset in the post-war reconstruction of Garreg Mach. Once the restoration was complete, she disappeared from the area entirely, though tales of a mysterious merchant were passed down in every corner of the world for centuries to come. Some say she continues her travels even to this day, eternally peddling her wares, and ever in search of the next lucrative opportunity.
